Blind Chameleon

I have an ambilobe panther chameleon that is about 2.5 years old. He is blind in one eye. I've been hand feeding him for over a year now. Aside from the eye issue, he is in perfect health. I was just wondering if he will ever be able to eat on his own again. He will follow his food with his good eye, but won't shoot his tongue at it. Has anyone had a similar problem, or does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to try to hunt on his own again?

I had a male panther chameleon's that had its eye removed due to cancer. At first he would shoot at the food and miss so I held the food closer and he would get it. Little by little I moved the food further away and he soon became about 90% accurate.
