Black Spots on Veiled

I have a Male Veiled Chameleon, he is about 10 months old, and just recently out of the blue, 3 black spots showed up on the left side of his body. I'm not quite sure what they are and I would like to know if anyone has any idea if it is a burn, a bruising, anything. He has shedded with the marks and the skin has never came over 2 out of the 3 areas yet. Any help would be appreciated. If I am not placing this post in the correct category please correct me. Thanks in advance. I will post more pictures when I get home In a couple hours.

I would like to say Atleast a foot. The bulb is a 65 watt flood light..

HOw hot is the basking temp?
if the mesh is heating up and he rubbed against it, it can burn him.

That's a good point.mine was heating too much aswell but also not letting enough heat through.I just cut a hole in it directly under the bulb and wrapped the edge with the spare dripper pipe to avoid sharp edges.

I would be inclined to say it looks like a burn so it might be word investing in an infra red pistol type thermometer and check all surface temps
