my baby chameleon turn black when it get under the basking light, is that normal?

this means he is cold, they turn black to absorb more heat. What is temp of the basking spot and how many watts?

ya that seems fine, it might be a bit low you would want it at around 85

If he is a juvinal, then that is fine! if not then 88 is the correct answer to that question. (hope that helps)

A higher wattage bulb will make it hotter. How old is your chameleon? Female, male?

I am assuming he has a screen cage! (room temp is also a key factor!) if so try wrapping the top of the cage in a plastic heat ressitant material, this should help a little with the temp/hum control! if that is the overall problem?

Heat

You can also regulate the temperature of the basking area by moving the vines or plants up closer to the heat source. I have a juvi panther and keep the basking area at about 90. If he wants to heat up he sits under the bulb, if he want to cool down he moves to some of the lower vines in the enclosure. Chams can regulate themselves pretty well as long as they have the temp ranges they need.

since it is a baby that sounds fine, but try moving it closer and see how he reacts... is it a veiled??? if so i was told by a breeder that Adult veileds need the temp between 95 and 100 degrees in its basking spot, just thought that is something good for you to know for the future
