Better foods?

So my male panther Costello still isn't eating or drinking really, and I just tried roaches today. My girl Abby who just laid eggs is eating a couple more superworms (horray!) so shes back towards a regular diet. But I still can't seem to get Costello to eat or drink much. Hes tried superworms, crickets, and dubia roaches. He used to do 5+ superworms a day, and now he barely eats one. He has been coming out of his cage more tho. I notice he comes close to the door and will climb out onto me if I put my hand out. His stools are looking a little better, as they are less liquidy than before, but still are somewhat. Any suggestions on whats goin on or what else I should feed him?

man, i wish they would sticky a warning about superworms.

this is common, im sorry to say it may take him a very long time to get his appetite back. superworms are bar none one of the worst readily available feeder available. if your female is not stuck on them yet, you better try getting her off them asap. try other options moths, butterflies, mantis, locust, flies, silk worms, etc...

Why would you claim that superworms are "the worst readily available feeder"? Are you confusing them with mealworms? Also, be careful with butterflies and know the species you are feeding off. Stay away from wild flies.

I am curios as to why you make this statement. Yes, they are fatty, but what is the other downsides to this feeder you are claiming here?. They can be gutloaded just like crickets and roaches which is not the case with most other worms.

I won't say they are the worst out there but I will say after reading this page (http://chamownersweb.net/insects/nutritional_values.htm)It would appear that they definitely aren't the best... That said I still don't think we need to slam something that hard when it still does have it's benefits such as a better balanced Ca:p ratio and pretty high amount of protein... They are also a great way to end hunger strikes but like I said, still not the GREATEST feeder, definitely not good enough to be more than a few times a week at most in the times of little appetite... I will also agree with the opposition that they DO have an addictive tendency on chams... Stan will rarely hand feed anything BUT supers and will veraciously go after them, leaving all else behind

I just sucks to move from superworms cause they are soooo easy to keep compared to other feeders, and they are also the cheapest for me. Do you think that the superworms would explain the stool? Someone else thought so, but I'm not sure...

Well said. Variety is the spice of life. I would suggest a field sweep for green grasshoppers. My chams jump them faster than the grasshoppers can jump. They really love anything green. Mosy of us tend to use crickets and mealworms because they are readily available and easily bred, but variety keeps our chams interested. How excited would you be for hamburger every night?
