Hi yall, my two local pet stores haven't gotten isopods in for MONTHS! I need isopods for my new bioactive terrarium!
Can anyone please tell me where you would recommend buying isopods online for shipping to California? I found theworldofisopods.com but those things are so gucci they're like $100. I'm looking for something a little more reasonably priced.

Thanks!

A really good option for you is Rainbow Mealworms. They are located in Cali as well. Here is their isopod page link. https://www.rainbowmealworms.net/isopods/

Josh's frogs is another option as well. I think they are on the east coast but that does not matter much as they ship well. https://joshsfrogs.com/c/live_insects/feeders/isopods
Thanks so much! Which isopods do you recommend? There are a lot of options... I've got a bioactive terrarium with soil and a bunch of cham-safe plants. I put earthworms in there, and springtails, and one round of isopods but I'm not sure how they faired.

I never did a bioactive set up. I will tag some people that know much more than I do about isopods and how many you should add in. @jamest0o0 @MissSkittles @Sonny13

@jamest0o0 (previously our bug Lord) had advised me to go with giant canyon isopods, and they have been fantastic. They do seem to go thru a good deal of leaf litter, but they keep everything in good order. I’ve tried powder orange in with my leopard geckos, and they didn’t do well at all, so I eventually put giant canyon in with them too. They have proven to be quite hardy.

Hi,
I’m using earthworms, springtails and dairy cows plus powder orange isopods. They established themselves pretty well, most important is to provide them plenty and plenty of leaf litter and I even put in some veggies and fruits. They basically eat everything that isn’t alive. Problem in the beginning it takes time for them to thrive and establish themselves. It can easily take 2-3 months and before you’re already minded to put in new ones, don’t fall for that otherwise you’ll find them everywhere and the leaf litter disappears like snow in the sun.
