Best/favorite roaches?

What species of roach do you like best, as a feeder and why?

I only have dubia's but from my experience I know I like them because they cannot jump/climb/fly out of their bin and they are alot slower than some of their relatives not to mention they need heat to reproduce also unlike some of their sleazier relatives.

My dubias I suppose, though my lateralis aren't bad. No escapes from the Lateralis, but I have found escapee dubia nymphs...

Any thoughts on discoid or turkistan?

I have discoids, thousands of them. They are ok i guess. They dont smell, but they can climb the wall of a rubbermaid container if you dont buy the clear kind! I made that mistake, and my wife was really mad!

They eat about anything and are really hard to kill.

I have become allergic to them tho. I have to be very careful when picking out the nymphs to feed that I dont get too many on my skin. If i do, then its a sneezing fit for half an hour.

My favourite as a feeder is the Turk. mostly because my chameleons like them best. They also dont climb, making them easy to keep. They're fast though. I cup feed, and watch to ensure they get eaten right away, especially if Im feeding off female roaches.

I find dubias dont move much, and that makes my chameleons less interested in them. baby chameleons seem to prefer Turks and Hissers nymphs to dubia nymphs.

I love my hissers, but they do climb and the full size adults are a bit too big for the chameleons (and I kinda get attached to my hissers, so they are mostly pets rather than feeders).

why crush their heads? to prevent escape?

If they escape they die. I don't care if they get out as long as their heads are crushed. If you can't eat or drink you cant live.

I keep Dubias... and I don't care for them until just before feeding them off This is how I don't get overrun with roaches.....
