Baytril

Hey Everyone,

So my little chameleon has been fighting an RI. We took him to the vet (only one that sees reptiles..seems like a little amount) about a week ago and the vet said to get reptaid and possibly baytril. He said he was extremely hesitant on the baytril because our cham only weights 4 gms and he said it could potentially cause mbd as the cham grows. I have been researching and was wondering if anyone else has any thoughts? We have been giving him one drop of reptaid since and the little guy seems like he is fighting it still. Would anyone recommend stopping reptaid and getting the baytril? Thanks a bunch.

Baytril is really hard on the kidneys and IMO a 4 gram chameleon wouldn't do to well on this med. I would continue with the reptaid. I haven't heard about Baytril causing mbd though.

That vet was spot on in my opion. I would try the reptaid first for 10 days for sure .and see if theres any diffrence.I have given batrill to a few adults and it did its job. But it is hard on chameleons. That vet could have some past experence that your not aware of.

Thanks that helps a lot! No he was a a great vet and very personable (personally has been checking on optimus). I was just curious about the baytril because we have been giving the reptaid for seven days and opt is still have mucous/coughing. Thanks again
