basking temperature

What should a female 6month basking temp be? Mine is 90ºF im sure thats to hot, im using a 75watt bulb i do have a 50watt which i used for a day because i was worried that the 75watt was to hot for her, when i used the 50watts her temp went to 84ºF but she didn't feel warm enough so i put the 75watts back in. I thought if she weren't warm enough with the 50watt she would be basking but she didn't that much but to me she didn't feel very warm. Confused

I kept my first cham at around 90 and fed her all she wanted (I now realise that this shortened her life somewhat). With the heat and abundance of food, she laid two massive infertile clutches - the first of 104 and the second of 102. She didn't lay her first clutch until she was 14 months old, so I misguidedly thought I was doing things right!

I do things very differently with Amy, being determined that she will not lay such large clutches, if any - although I think she is working on her first clutch at the moment. Her basking temp is in the low 80's and she digests her food just fine. I feed her one locust a day, with the occasional waxworm as a treat. She cut down her intake voluntarily at around 6 months old, and, unlike a lot of females, doesn't over eat. Somertimes she has silkwomrs if I can get them and she will eat the odd super (Morio) worm or cricket.

I'm going to stick with the 50watts that keeps her basking temp in the low 80's i want her to live as long as possible i'd be heart broken if she died young like your lilly.

:( I know. I only had Lily for a year and was totally heartbroken and lost without her. She taught me so much and helped me get over my fear of locusts and crix, lol! I loved her so much and she was the friendliest girly-cham ever. She has been gone almost a year and I still miss her, even though I now have Amy and Tommy. Luckily Tommy is just like a male version of Lily!:D He came from the same breeder so there's a good chance that he is related to her too.

Keep an eye on your girl's temps and make sure that she is digesting her food ok. They need a certain amount of warmth to aid the digestion process.

:c Mia has taught me so much already to, im not scared of insects anymore well apart from crickets but they are just awful even mia doesn't think much of them. LOL, i've always loved animals all my life but a bearded dragon chased me when i was a child so up until i got mia i was unsure about reptiles. It was honestly love at first sight with her, i went to the pet shop to get my guinea pig's food and met Mia, she was tiny, just 9weeks old in a viv with her 6 brothers which she bossed about LOL she had such a big personality and so friendly i had to have her. I spent a week going in and out of the pet shop spending up to an hour in the shop just so i could see her. They really are such amazing little things i feel very lucky having Mia.

Your story is very similar to mine! I visited the reptile shop for Nutrabol to make glider food with and fell in love with Lily. She was 6 months old then. I had so many doubts that I wouldn't be able to look after her properly - it all seemed so daunting back then! I am so glad I got her though - she was the most amazing girl - a lot like your Mia. It really is wonderful to have a friendly chameleon! Just this afternoon Tommy has been pestering to be let out all the time. I watched saw him go down to the bottom of his viv and headbutt the door to get attention! When he doesn't get what he wants he stomps back up to his top corner in a huff! Love him to bits, lol!:D

Lmao thats what Mia does, she head butts the door until you open it. If i cant she goes back up to her basking to sulk. You get such a good laugh, when i go to put her in her viv she looks at me then walks back up my arm as if it to stay i'll stay out a bit longer. LOL
