Basking Temp

What should the basking temp be for my 4 month old veiled male?

ive been trying to set the temp in my viv (4x3x2) i need it to be around 83 for my baby yemen
i bought a 20 watt energy bulb and placed my thermometer about 9 inch away from it and left it on most of the day but it only got to 74
should i put it the branch closer or get a higher watt bulb

any info will be gratefully received

It would be great if you could have different levels of basking branches under the basking light with the closest one no more than 6" from bulb to avoid burns. I would try a 60 watt bulb. That is a large enclosure so if you put the basking bulb to one side and cover the back and side of the enclosure, it should warm up that area. They cham would have to option to bask at whatever temp he needs.

I set mine at 95 but make it where they can move away if needed.

ive got the highest basking area to about 90 now, the other side of the viv is 70-75 so iam happy with that,roll on saturday when i get my yemen
i was going to ask for a few ideas for names but i have chosen neville now it kinda suits him
