Basking light

Hi everyone!

I have recently moved my 5 month old veiled cham into a 24X24X48 screened cage and was wondering how far away should I have his branch for basking from the top of cage? I have a 75 watt bulb in a 10 inch dome light fixture.

Thank you!

I would put it down about 6-8 inches. Check your temp on the branch where your chameleon will bask. Just make sure as your chameleon grows, that no part of his body, especially his casque cannot touch the hot screen.

On thanks! One last question. I have him in the corner of his own room with large window next to the cage. The sun comes through in the afternoon and increases the temp in cage. Would it be a good idea to turn nasking light off so that he does not get too hot? Or just leave light on and keep blinds opened/closed?

It really would depend on how much the sun heats up your cage. I would take the temp when the sun comes through. To be on the safe side, you could just keep the light on and keep the blinds closed though! It is possible that the cage will not get heated up enough and you wouldn't have to close the blinds either!
