Barking geckos

I swear I have seen something about this in some old posts, but I can't seem to get the right search combinations to find them again.

I just got back from a trip to Granada, Nicaragua and their common house geckos, that look just like ours here in Texas and probably like most generic house geckos in the south - kind of a greyish color, but they make a barking/chirping noise. I was never actually able to witness one in the act, but after many nights of observing these geckos I am sure they were the culprits. After discussing it with some of the locals, they confirmed that their geckos do indeed 'bark'. It sounds kind of like the chirp of a cardinal but a little lower on the register. Usually 3 or 4 chirps in succession. I figured it was possible since even tiny little frogs can make big noises, but I wonder why all the geckos I see at home are silent.

Anyone else heard or seen anything similar in these types of geckos?

Ever listen to a Tokay? I think you might find something on You Tube..scares the living bajebeeis out of you if you are not prepared for it....well, it scares you when you are prepared for it.

Leachies bark, whistle, recite the Declaration of Independence.

They are very vocal.

I love the tokay call "tokay tokay tokay"

The store I got my Beardie has some fan footed geckos and just as the lad there told me about them barking, they confirmed it. One ran up to the other, barked like a tiny lapdog and the other ran off, allowing the culprit to swan up and down that side of the viv lol

They also seem to clean themselves like cats, licking their feet... and other areas  in much the same way. So I guess you could say they are a cadogecko

Cool. I knew there were species that vocalized, I was just surprised that it appeared to be the same species of gecko I see here, not something that was just indiginous to the area.

African fat tails bark...frog-eyed sand geckos bar...uroplatus do what I call a "death shriek"....baby leos shriek/rattle.

Halmahara (a/k/a Vorax) geckos also bark and squeek a lot - I hear them every night. Oh, and it's also been my experience with them that females will bark at another female if they are in the same enclosure (i.e. don't keep them as trios).

That would be more likely a male barking at another male, though a larger female may dominate a smaller one, for the most part trios are common, and the best combination for breeding purpouses.

Not in my household.:) I purposely got another female to have a trio - both same sized females. You would have thought I started world war III when both females were together. I've tried it several times and with different set ups and even without the male present. (and unless boys can lay eggs, I'm positive both of them are females:)) They do nothing but bark at each other and the male just sits back and watches (I think he is laughing at them, but that's just me...).

You dont mention your setup, so its speculation, but Id bet its a lack of personal territory/hides. If they are both females and both the same size, its very unusual
behaviour unless space comes into it. Are they the same species? what species?
Either 'female' have a regenerated tail?
Im assuming your certain both 'females' have layed eggs?
