Bamboo

Is bamboo a safe thing to use in my chameleon's cage? I have a ton of it in my yard and he needs new sticks for climbing.

Yeah, but imo it is to slick for a good grip.

I used to have some in my enclosures, my chams didn't have issues with it. I do think you should not only use bamboo as it won't help wear down their nails a lot.

I use some bamboo, just take some 60 grit sandpaper to it. It will rough it up some and make it easier to grip.

I believe the leaves contain cyanide(?) so it is not a good live plant for plant eating chameleons. Many people use the dried roughed up branches with no issue.

I want to say that I’ve heard that before too but I’m not 100%...

It is a cyanide compound I had to look it up. It is found primarily in the new shoots.
Panda's have adapted to handle eating it.

Thanks everyone. I would just be using the branches horizontally for my boy to climb around on.
