The Hubby and I had been so excited anticipating this show! Unfortunately, I hate to say it was quite disappointing =\ They didn't have many Chameleons... maybe 3 vendors. They all had Jacksons and Veileds.. 1 of them had Flap Necks, and one guy had a couple of juvenile Panthers (2 Red Bar Ambilobe's and 2 Nosy Be's). I got really excited, thinking I'd found an addition to our family.. but thanks to the help of this board, I realized that the little guys were not the best of health and kept in poor conditions. I know that at expo's they are in temporary enclosures, and not ideal habitats... but this was just sad
They had them in plastic boxes with practically no ventilation, a few wooden dowels with a couple of silk leaves glued on (thick globs of it). There's no way that could be healthy! They looked really dehydrated, skinny and sad to me. One vendor had a veiled that looked like it was dying.... was a dark brown color (granted I'm sure that the animals are stressed to begin with) but this poor girl's eyes were extremely sunken in, and I watched her fall off a branch and just lay there on her side
They had different chams all housed together and not just babies/juveniles. It was heartbreaking. The crazy thing is, there was a reptile expo just a few months ago, which is when I got our 2 veiled's... that one had a lot more chameleons, and they were properly taken care of. screen enclosures, adults were all housed separately (only babies were together) they did not look sick or skinny. The vendors were much more informed on chameleon care.. today it just seemed like they could care less about these chams
They were mostly snake and other reptile guys, who happened to have a couple of chameleons. it was just sad.. worse than Petsmart
On a brighter note.... came home and placed an order for a BB Ambilobe baby boy
(sired by Bonaroo, from Chameleon Company) He will be here Tuesday!!!
