Baby veileds hatched early!

my female veiled layed her eggs on 27th may but 5 of them hatched today after just 5 months! And a few more look ready to make an appearence.
Everything i read said they take 6-9 months so i was more than shocked and totaly unprepeared.
Has anyone else had veiled eggs hatch at 5 months?

I have made a make shift tank for them until i can sort out something better.
I have ordered 1000 micro crickets and fruit fly cultures which woulnt b hear for a few days but i have read that they dont start eating straight away so I think they should be fine as long as the postal strike in the UK doesnt delay them.

What other feeders do people suggest?
Any advice will be gratfully received and please correct me if im wrong on anything.

What temperature did you incubate them at?

i kept them at a constant 83 (will double check when i get home) and the 5 that have hatched so far seem to be very active and doing really well.
She layed 39 eggs, around 9 went bad some im hoping another 25 will hatch soon. 3 out 5 that have hatched came out from the same tube and the 2 remaining eggs in that tube look like they will hatch within a day or 2!

temps sound a bit high, but I'm sure you are trying to convert it into F from C.
even if the temps are correct, I would not fix what isn't broken.

btw, congrats...you seem to have alot of work ahead of you.
I know I would be freaking out by now.

lol, I was yesterday, just got home and another has hatched

checked the temp and is actualy set between 80 and 81.

def alot of work ahead but im looking forward to it!

It is not unusual or surprising that they are hatching at 5 months with this incubation temperature.
6 to 9 months would be at a lower temp. 72 to 76 degrees f.

Yup.

I had a clutch go 12 months at 70.
Just had a clutch hatch at 6 months incubating at 76 to 80.

This is my very make shift set up, its got everything they need as far as im aware put it does look very un tidy at the moment!

Hi jojo,

thanks for posting some photos of your cage setup for the baby(s) as I feel a few things need to be changed...

first off, that cage needs to be put on it's side as it's too high for silly babys that could fall.
next, take out the lights from the cage...place the UVB bulb right on top, but outside the cage.
if your room is 74F-76F then I don't see a need for the basking bulb, but if it's cooler then place it outside the top of the cage...OFF THE WIRE OF THE CAGE so the babys wont get burned if they climb the top.

I would goto the petstore and buy a few fake plants or add some pothos so they have more drinking spots and hiding places if they feel the need to hide.

lastly, run outside and grab some sticks and twigs that fell from some nearby trees and make a "jungle gym" for your new baby(s) to climb on around the plant leaves...the more the better.

I'm sure this is all temporary, but untill you have a few normal hatchling tubs or tanks ready, it might as well be perfect.

Do you really not need a heat bulb?
That makes life easyer if that is right!

Thank you very much, that post has helped me alot, I will turn the cage back up right and do all the the things you suggested.

All 6 are doing really well at the moment, all a nice green and climbing everywere, and seemed to enjoy the fruit flys that arrived today.
