Baby veiled chameleon going to sleep early?!

I’ve recently bought a veiled chameleon, it’s my first time owning a chameleon. He’s has been eating fine and everything seems ok. I have his timer for his lights to shut off at 6, but noticed to today he was already going to sleep around 4-4:30ish. Is it normal for them to go to bed while the light is still on? He goes to the same spot every night to sleep, but this time he went to that spot about an hour and half earlier.

Hmm, is he actually sleeping, or just sitting at the sleeping spot until the lights go off?

Mine did this too when he was younger. First I thought it was because I was having a drainage problem. Fixed that, didn't change. We think it had to do with the time of year (sun setting earlier) and the activity in the house. Double check your husbandry to be sure but if he's active during the day otherwise I wouldn't worry too much.

@Zebenox sleeping during the day is not usually normal, it can sometimes be an indicator of sickness. But going to the sleeping spot early is not uncommon, as long as they don't actually go to sleep until the lights are out.

Hmm. How long have you had him? How long has he been doing this? Have you noticed any changes in eating habits or general behavior since this has started?

Could you fill this out? :) Perhaps something is wrong with your husbandry.

If it is only sometimes an indicator of illness, what is it the rest of the time? My chameleon goes to bed at the same time every day but it's always before his light goes off. He consistently gets up when the lights turn on, eats well, is active, urates and stool are normal, absolutely no indicator of illness other than he goes to bed earlier than the lights go off. He's been this way since we got him.

It can also be because of excessive stress, lack of a proper light schedule, etc. You really cant go off just one odd thing to diagnose chameleons.. depending on what said thing is. Lots of moving factors when diagnosing a possible problem.

I'm sure someone a bit more experienced could give you a better answer :)

Hello I need help too please! My baby chameleon has been doing the same thing recently but I just moved him into the correct enclosure and I changed his lighting so maybe that will help. He also just started like 2-3 days ago closing his right eye for a little then opening it for a bit but then closing it. I’m worried but read that it could be due to his eye drying out since he sleeps kind of on his side with that eye towards the light. I have been misting him and I used a Q-tip to gently wipe his eye with a saline wash And when he opens it, it looks perfectly fine so I’m not sure if I should take him to the vet.
