What is the "normal" number of crickets for an 8 week old male veiled to eat?

Lots of them.....depending on his size. 8 to 15 appropriate size crickets a day.....no bigger than the space between his eyes. Jann

We had him on the small ones, and he was eating about 25 a day, plus some of his ficus. We have now moved him to the next level up (i checked and they are the right size) and he is still eating about 20. As soon as the bowl goes in he is straight down there! As long as this is the normal amount that's good!

Mine eats a small handfull or greens, carrots, and apple, 4-6 medium crickets or 3-4 large crickets twice a day and 2-5 mealworms or mealworm pupae once a day. An occasional treat of jumping spider, flies, roaches, or grasshoppers would be good too, or staple of roaches instead of crickets. Variety is best for chameleons as they will eventually get tired of just crickets. Mix it up and give them different numbers and types of food to promote interest and your chameleon should not get tired of any one thing.

Mine is about 4-6 months old from what I can tell, she is a female veiled about 8-9 inches long, so is able to go after full grown crickets now. She loves her salad.

I do plan to add some variety into his diet, but as he is still quite small, we can't get any locusts or waxworms that will be suitable at the moment. I may try him on some apple soon, although since he has been eating so many crickets I haven't seen him snacking on the ficus. There is also a spider living on the wood in his enclosure, so waiting to see if he spies that! It's just a shame that at his present size, there isn't much around that is small enough for him!

I noticed this too, there aren't to many places that carry very small worms of all sorts. My baby male veiled is eating around 12-15 crix a day.

Locusts come in various sizes just like crickets. I've seen them at my supplier and they range in size from small, medium, large, extra large up to adult. The smaller the size the more you get in the box, eg. the adults are in packs of just 5 - they really give me the creeps though!! One of Lily's extra large ones shed and grew huge long wings, but it died before Lily had chance to eat it!!
