Baby veil won’t open her eyes

Hi guys, my boyfriend and I bought a baby girl veil chameleon from pet smart yesterday. When we arrived home with her, we noticed both her eyes were completely shut. We called to see if something was wrong and their answer was it doesn’t concern us because she eats. Well guess what, no she is also not eating. She does not wonder around her enclosure, never opens her eyes, and we have not seen her drink. We are beside ourselves and do not want to return her because she is obviously not being well taken care off. We have been spraying her and making sure it is humid and warm for her, now we know nothing else to do. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated. We want to save her

It is very dehydrated and might have parasites or vitamin deficiency or who knows. If youre dead set against getting your money back and starting with a healthy pet, then I highly recommend taking it to a good chameleon vet.

well she does look ill. If I had to guess vitamin A, but not a vet.
point is as you already know, it is bad care. The simple cure is good care. Easier said than done. Hopefully she is not too far gone.
Vitamins is what she needs. You may have to force feed until she regains strength.
I would get on a good vitamin schedule, calcium no D3 every feeding but 4. Those alternate from calcium with D3 and multi vitamin each week. That is standard.
She will probably need more, but that is the part I am not sure of. Hopefully someone will have better idea of how to add supplement. Maybe liquid vitamins.

Severely dehydrated. Petsmart is not where chameleons want to go. She needs fluids and fast! May have to sirange feed. She also looks underweight. Book an appointment for her at a reputable reptile vet if you're set on keeping her. Otherwise take her back and we can help you get a healthy Veild.

We agreed to return her and give pet smart a piece of our minds. We’re just upset that this is happening to such delicate creatures. I’ve really wanted one forever and I’m so sad to see this is the reality to generic pet stores

It’s our first time handling a chameleon and we both agreed we don’t want to make her suffer and pet smart said they would take her to a vet. Hopefully they live up to their word and get her proper care. We are looking into chameleon breeders in our area and it looks promising. Thank you for your information

If you can't find a local breeder there are some great breeders on the forum.

Aww poor baby. Sorry you had to make that tough call.

It would be a good idea to get your enclosure set up beforehand and have the peeps here give it a once over to make sure it's good to go. A correct/incorrect set up can make all the difference.
