Baby to Adult basking temp change??

Hi All,

I've read that the basking temp is lower for youngsters then increased for adult panthers?

At what age should the basking temp be raised? And to what temp??

Thanks in advance :)

For a baby veiled or panther I keep the 2 to 3 month olds at 80 to 81 and then start increasing it a degree each month until you reach 85 to 86 for a panther and 89 for a veiled.

How do you raise the temp? I have one hanging metal light with a 100 watt basking bulb and it stays around 82 in his habitat. Should I invest in another light kit when Ozzie gets bigger and I move him into a screen habitat?

Ozzie looks pretty small in the picture you just posted of him. A 100 watt sounds really hot for a baby. What are you using to check the temps? I would recommend a screened cage for a veiled at any age and to raise and lower the temps just move the light up or down and you can also move the basking branch but sometime babies with crawl on the tops of the cage. I'm attaching my blog for new keepers below for you.

I have a digital temp and humidity unit I got at Lowes. The light is hanging on a stand so it is as far as it can be lifted on the stand to not be near the screen top. Like I said it is staying right at 82 which I read is fine for babies? I never see him with his mouth open like he is hot.

You can also change the bulb to a small or higher watt. I have never use 100 before even on my adults. I keep my male veild at 89 with a 60 watt.

Thanks Jann :)

Simba is 5 months old now. Have increased his baking temp to around 83-84.

I'm using a 60w bulb but I have a dimmer thermostat on it so it's quite easy to adjust and maintain his basking temp.

Thanks again x
