Baby setup pics!

Hello, most of you know my thread that did really well about the chameleon room pics? Well now i think we would all love to see how you all setup your baby chameleon homes. How do you keep them? What do you keep them in? I know what i will do for my little ones but i just wanted to see everyone's different ideas. Are you willing to share?

I saw one of these plant racks at Home Depot the other day. I think it was $399 ... ouch. Gotta love Canada. But the hoods for the linear tubes are included .. and it's quite organized. I would probably invest in it if I decided to breed exclusively.

My brother in law used to breed many different kinds of chams and he told me that he used large plastic buckets ... the kind you would buy wine in. The size is sufficient. I can see it working. I was thinking of just using my glass exoterra enclosure.

What will you breed?

I have a female veiled which I wouldn't mind breeding. She's at the right age. I also have an ambilobe but she is too young yet. I might not keep her though. I'm just taking care of her as a friend of mine didn't want her and she was in bad shape. If I do keep her, I will try breeding with her as well.

I have access to males at any time. My brother in law owns a reptile store in Toronto so that works out in my favour. He is getting some ambanjas next week so lets see if I fall in love. I might end up getting one of those instead and giving him the ambilobe to sell to a good home. I'm still torn ... she's growing on me.

Sorry for the rant ... so veileds for sure ... and probably a variety of panthers. That's my intention for the future anyway. I'm going to be handling a lot of my brother in laws breeding department. That's not just including chameleons. Other reptiles as well.

Ahahaha it's ok. I also have a female veiled with 43 eggs from her......and kinyogia thanks that helps:)

Beautiful. What are you doing with the eggs right now? What are they being kept in? Temps? I'm going to be getting a few mini fridges for incubation ... figure with my climate, it might be necessary.

You said the female panther was in bad shape. is she better now? What was wrong with her? IMO no chameleon should be breed or sold if it is not in great condition, not just maybe ok but great condition. If you have it sold at the pet store it has a lot less chance of any problems getting the care and attention they need. If you want the female to live then you need to properly care for it prior to any sale or breeding. Just how I feel.

That's okay - I appreciate you caring about her and I value your input. She means a lot to me. I am happy to say she is THRIVING since I've taken her under my wing. She was severely dehydrated and I solved that within a few hours. Then my concern was why she wasn't eating. I decided to give her a week to see if I would get any positive results. I took suggestions and used my own judgment.

I tried feeding her every day. I put silkies and butterworms on her vines. I let a cricket jump in her enclosure. She didn't care. I decided after 3 days to try feeding her with a syringe with a mix of 2 crix, 2 butterworms, some pedialyte, water and a bit of cal w/ d3 and multivitamin. I sprayed her with water and when she started drinking, I would let drops fall on her tongue and she took to it quite well. I tried leaving her alone for 2 days to reduce stress. I only went in to shower her and attempt feeding twice a day. She was basking a lot for about two more days. Then, about 2 days ago, I put a cricket in and lone behold! Out the corner of my eye, I see her chomping down on the cricket!!!!! Triumph! Today she had 6 crickets and I dusted one with multivitamin and 2 with cal/d3. I'm going to ease off on the supplements, I know, but I'm just trying to give her a nutritional base so she can continue to get stronger. She looks great - I'm extremely pleased with her progress. I will continue to take care of her as I do every day and hope that she gets stronger with each day that passes.

As for the pet store, that would be my brother in laws store. I take care of the chameleons, as well as other reptiles/mammals there, minus the snakes.. that would be his department of expertise. ;) I've dealt with veileds and ambilobes on a daily basis but I'm still under his wing .. learning every day. That's why I'm on here like no tomorrow .. reading, learning anything and everything I can.

He has no interest in taking her in for sale unless she shows a solid recovery. He used to breed chams and has given me a lot of guidance alongside the knowledge I've learned on these forums. I asked him if he wanted to take the cham initially because I knew I was not seasoned with chams that were under the weather. But since I'm on mat leave and I'm home with my two children in the meantime, he thought it might be better if I tried caring for her. I could give her the attention she needed. He couldn't.

But perhaps you are right ... since I don't know what the issue with her is/was, it might not be an ideal female to breed with. She was definitely not taken care of properly as she was really dehydrated. It could be nothing .. but it could be something. If she does make a full recovery and is suitable for selling, I will make sure to tell the buyer her health history and to be weary if interested in the possibility of breeding.

Who knows .. I might just keep her. She's realllly growing on me. I almost cried when she ate her first cricket. What a come back she has made ... I am hopeful.

this is a great idea for a thread! here is one of my hatchling Oustalets enclosures:

009-1.jpg

I have 5 of these in total. They measure about 4.5 feet across by 2 feet deep by 4 feet high. They are screened off in the middles making 3 seperate sections per unit. All are constructed of wood and mesh, are heated with 100watt spot bulbs and lit with 48" UV tubes. Inside are potted ficus benjamina trees and each section is designated different size prey items, so fruitflys in one, number 1 crickets in the next and so on.

Come on people, show us your enclosures!!

WOW!!! Cool cages! and cool chams i saw you thread:)

Yeah everyone show us your pictures:)

HAHA! Thanks! I'm almost finished building a 2ftw x 2ftd x 6fth enclosure for a male yemen i'm picking up on wednesday next week. The male will be housed in it until my clutch of yemens hatches in around 4 months time so I guess it counts as a baby enclosure!! i'll post pics soon...

And finally in place in my chameleon room!;

The whole unit is 28" x 28" square and 6ft 3" high, I have a 75watt basking lamp at the top and a 48" UV tube built into the outside door jar. Both doors have fabric mesh built in from top to bottom. I also have a super fogger running through the back of the unit to bump up the humidity if needed. inside is eco earth substrate, a live potted ficus tree, silk ivy and a few fake plants and reptivines. I still need to add a few more vines and also add a compact UV tube to the top so that the whole enclosure is lit!
let me know what you all think and come on people - lets see some more pics!! :D
