Hi all I am new here and to chameleons as well.
I got a 2 week old panther about 2 weeks ago and I got him to eat crickets the first couple of days I had him. Then he did not eat for over a day, just starring at crickets so I introduced fruit flies which he immediatly went after, and now that is all he wants.

Is this an acceptable diet for a 1 month old panther, how do I dust these or do I (pet store guy said not nec.).

Thanks for your help.

I got a 2 week old panther about a week about too! Thats so funny! :D

And yeah, they only fed him fruitflies at the shop and I tried pinheads too. He ate them the first day, but then day two I noticed him hunting them but refusing to eat them. Instead he would look around for the fruit flies.

I dont have an answer to why both our babies do this...but we are in the exact same boat.

Maybe its the hardness of the crickets that they don't like.

lol

that's funny so I guess I have nothing to worry about. he seems to be plenty active. pooping plenty too.

who knows maybe we got a set of siblings lol

haha, thats so funny, we do have siblings! There were 3 hatched when I got my little guy!

Hope your little panther stays happy and well!:D

I dust fruit flies using a cup with some dust at the bottom. Just dump them in the cup, swirl them around so they get a little coat of dust on them and then give them to your panther baby.

oh and about dusting, just throw the fruitflies in a plastic bag with the shake them. Dont lather them completely, but cover them evenly and lightly.

I have started the supplement regimen everyone preaches here:

Calcium without D3 everyday
Calcium with D3 twice a month
Herpivite twice a month.

Im horrified that a pet store is selling 2 week old panthers, but aside from that...
Not a problem that it eats only fruit flies for a few weeks. Yes, you should dust some of the flies, especially if your fly growing medium is weak. I dust fruit flies by putting some small amount of supplement into a plastic container, banging some flies into the container, shaking/swirling the container
keep introducing pin head crickets, and soon also you can offer tiny silkworms, tiny mealworms, etc

awsome, thank you all for the input. I will dust lightly and keep feeding for another week or two then try to introduce crickets again. you guys r great
