We had two CB capret chameleons hatch out yesterday..

There are a few more eggs. I think at least one more will hatch based on what they looked like when I candled them... but you never know.

Eggs laid in March..so 7 months in incubation




ALSO Since I am posting carpet pics...here is a little male carpet I purchased form Dooley not too long ago. Doing great and super cute

Aaaaah so cute! This might have to be the next species I work with if I ever settle down and can have more chams. They're so darn cute.
 
nice..i havent seen micro lats for years!! yours are the first pics that ive seen of lil cb's in about 6 years!:) good job!!
 
Did you do the range that Kevin suggests people use or did you use a slight diapause?

Are these laterlais lateralis or lateralis major?

A friend of mine who kept carpets 2 years ago said that they are difficult to keep compared to panthers and veileds, and they are very sensitive, is this true?

We incubated them the same way we incubate panther and veiled eggs.. Closet Method - about 70-80 degree range.

This is the second clutch we have hatched of carpets this way. The first clutch we had hatch was where the mother of these two came from. :)

laterlais lateralis . I have been more successful with captive hatched and captive bred carpets as apposed to Wild Caught. Unfortunately most Carpets you see for sale are Wild Caught.

All the wild caughts I have ever gotten seem to thrive for a few months and then just crash and eventually die. I chalk it up to failure to acclimate. I feel that carpets and more easily stressed than my veileds or panthers.

Also their life span is only about 3 years where a panther or veiled is much longer...

We had a captive hatched male Lat that we got from The Chameleon Company years ago. He lived to about 3 and half years old before he past away. These are his babies.

After moving the pair to the baby bin.. I believe I have one boy and one girl. :)

Thanks Kevin. The little guy is doing great. He has been growing like a weed and colors are popping up on him.
 
oh well they look like a really great specie.
I hope to one day have a pair of carpets. I prefer the lateralis lateralis over the lateralis major, but I have only ever seen majors here in S.A...but the nice thing is that when they are available, they are CB.

Good luck with your breeding. Post more pics as those little baby carpets grow :) Will be interesting to see how they go along
