Baby down... well partially

Hopefully I can address everything that was said so far. Yes, of course we love him but a vet visit is going to wait for a little. The fact that he is able to get all over the cage as well as his eating habits that have not changed makes me think that he could recover or at least be well enough to live normally. He has use of three of his legs completely but his fourth leg is black. Tonight he began moving the leg a little which is an improvement from what it was originally. He has been isolated from all other siblings so that he can easily get food without having to deal with competition. The leg and the tail are still black but that is to be expected with a pinch like that. If he shows any signs of worsening rather than improving we will take him to the vet. I will keep all posted on the forum if you would like me to. And for the record its Kyle Renz. Not that that matters but just for future reference. Sorry I couldn't share the name Kyler. Thank you everyone for your insight on the situation, and I am sorry that I got defensive earlier, I suppose I just read the post wrong.

Good luck!

Thanks for the update. I hope he does get better! Seeing some movement is a good sign I think.

As the link I shared does seem morbid, it is more humane than freezing.

Do you think that he can survive even if his leg doesn't get completely rehabilitated? Like i said he does get around good but in the long run how do you guys think it will effect him?

there was a thread a few weeks ago about a "tripod" cham. from what i read it was adapting well, it did require a vet trip to remove some skin tho.

If you feel there is a reason to euthanize the animal take a look at this site. Do not be that person who is known for freezing their cham. It isn't pleasant to read about on the forum.

Or to relive over and over again..

Believe me, people will NOT let you forget that you froze your cham...

No one knows whats going on but you. if You feel it needs to go, you make the judgement call and do not worry about what the people on here will say. Yes Freezing is inhumane but so is watching a cham die a slow, torcherous death. It happens. I hope it doesnt in this case, and I wish you the best..

what a horrible position to be in not one i would envy anyone for.
good luck and i hope the little mite recovers enough to enjoy a happy if a little dehabilitated life

He seems to be doing very well! :) He still has discoloration in the left back leg but he is moving all around the cage eating and drinking a ton. He is in his own cage still and i think we are going to keep him in his own cage for awhile if not forever just so he doesn't have to deal with competition. We are very hopeful for the little guy being that he is still getting around and eating well. He doesn't seem to be in pain but then again its hard to know. It was a pretty traumatizing experience but i guess we'll have to learn from it and always double check and triple check before closing the door. I hope no one else ever has to go through something like this! :(

Glad to hear he is doing better! I don't have personal experience with this type of injury, but from my understanding the discoloring will subside as it heals if nothing major is wrong.

I would keep an eye on it though. If it stays black it might need to be removed.

Do you have a local vet? One you could easily gain access to if you needed?

I did something similar to one of my lady veileds. I had her in a critter keeper while waiting for a screened cage and I got her foot under the lid. C.K. has a pretty snug fit. Well, I didn't notice. I thought she was just up at the top. The next day I saw her still there and noticed how her leg was extended. WOW I felt like you did. The fingers with 2 nails on her front right leg were smashed and the nails were twisted. After shedding tears I just let her be and hoped for the best. That was at about 2-3 months of age.

Well, she is now 1 1/2 years and her front fingers actually corrected themselves. I thought she would lose her nails but nope, she is now fine.

I am guessing that if there is still circulation he will recover. If the circulation is gone the parts will have to be amputated or infection could take over.

Anyway, just wanted to let you know that you shouldn't even be thinking about the big E. As long as he is eating, pooping and crawling around there is hope for some sort of recovery.

Phew, thank you Bocajan for bringing some senior member sensibility to this thread. It was starting to get way too macabre in here.

Kyle, I wouldn't beat yourself up or your GF about it, shit happens, it really does. Glad to hear you he is pulling through, surprising how resilient these guys can be.

Thank you for this!

Sorry to hear about your girl but I am glad she recovered!

To let everyone know. The little guy is now moving around very well and he is now functioning his leg much better. It is still a little funky but he is moving it a lot and he is gripping things as he normally would as he crawls around. It is looking like he could recover quite nicely. Hope that that will ease everyone's minds.

To make you feel better I did a similar thing to my veiled's tail and was in utter TEARS! He can move it now and the color is slowly coming back. I'm sure he will be able to recover. :)

OH yeah.... I remember hearing about that. So he has function of the tale again?
