Baby chickens

I just walked outside to find about 6 baby chicks in my yard. How strange. I don't know what to do with them.

Are you sure they are chickens? They could be chicks of another species. Could you post a picture of them? Is there anyone who keeps chickens nearby? The best thing to do is to return them if they are not wild. If they are, you will need to know the species.

This is the best pic i got of one of them. They aren't scared of people at all I'm sure they wandered off from somewhere. I don't know anyone around who keeps chickens. I don't think they are wild though

Do you have a feed supply store around you? You can get chick or game bird feed. It is hard to tell from the photo, but I think it is either a chicken or similar. At that age it will not need any additional heat.

Yeah there's a tractor supply co. and an atwoods here i will go get them some chicken feed tomorrow . I have dogs and a cat so I have them in an old dog crate for now. I will have to find someone who can take them because I can't keep them.

I might be wrong, but upon further examination of the photo, it looks similar to a peacock chick. It might be better to buy a game bird chick feed, just in case they aren't chickens.

That one is brown; its the only one of the 6 that is brown. The rest are all black. I looked at some pics of peacock chicks and they do look similar except one of them has a very obvious comb like a rooster. I dont know if peacocks have those.

Hey. I work for tractor supply! Go in and ask for the "Dumor Chick Starter" feed, not the "starter grower", just the starter.

I second "turkeys". Were they separated from their flock? Are you prepared to raise 6 wild turkeys?

If you decide to take them on, they are going to need a roost asap. Something raccoon and fox proof. I would ask people at a feed store the best diet for a young juvenile game bird and start putting together a roost.

Also, check with the local regulation to be sure you are not breaking any laws by taking them in. The state dept of conservation would know.

Those are definitely chickens. You can feed them chick feed until you find either their old home or a new one. You should try asking around or put up a found poster.

Lol.... Chickens are gross, there really is no way around it. Some bedding will help with that

My husband found someone to take them who lives on a farm with like 11 other chickens. Hooray!

Yay! Chick rescue adventure time! I'm glad someone could take them in. The full body picture is much more chicken like, so I rescind my turkey vote.
