Baby Bin design:)

Hello everyone, well when my veield eggs hatch out, they will be in this bin first for most of their life and then on to screen cages and all. Well i decide to make things for them even though they didn't hatch yet:p and i put everything in the bin and basically kinda set everything up. Do you guys like it? Let me know what you think.

P.S-Jannb's thread with the pics of her babies and baby bins inspired me to build these things. I loved her jungle gym!:)

You can use live plants. It helps keep humidity up. Also do be afraid of using sticks you find. It will save you a few bucks.

Good job Stefan! I only use the boxwood plant. It holds water and they can drink from it. I am afraid they might hurt their little tongues on that back left plant and the one up front when they shoot to eat.

I will take that out:) Thanks.

And your lucky Petsmart near you sells the large boxwood ones. The ones they sell here are smaller and come with another type of the same size:(

Great job! I too stole the play gym idea from the person that posted awhile ago. May I suggest real plants? What I did is bought pothos and umbrella plants from Home depot, and cut off pieces so they had real leaves and stems, but not the rest. Put it all in with paper towel on the bottom.

Thanks for the tips. I probably will add some live plants in there like a day after they start to hatch so i don't have the plant and by the time they hatch, it dies:l

Thanks:D

My pothos pieces never did too well, but my umbrella leaves and stems are still the originals from over a month ago. At every enclosure cleaning I take them out and wash them in cold soapy water and rinse, and they are no worse for wear. Funny because I can usually kill a plant just by being in the same room with it! LOL

How much space is there between the sticks and the top of the cage? I can't tell, sorry. :p

Not much and that's what i just thought of. They may be able to get out but i will have the lid on but will cut out most of the lid and replace is with screen mesh like Vegas Chad does on his baby bins.

why aren't you just using regular screened cages? aren't Veiled babies big enough out of the egg to munch down 1/4 inchers?

if you're going to keep the sticks up in the air, you should put some fake leaves around them.

babies love being high above, and those sticks can't offer any droplets.

live plants ARE the way to go.

No they arent. I dont think veield hatchlings can eat the size crickets when they first hatch. I am just going by what many veield breeders have done.

I will put more leaves up there

When's the last time you've seen a veiled baby right out of the egg? :p

Hey everyone. I just wanted to post some updated pics of the bin. I will add live plants once i see one or a couple of them out of the egg. I also will be using the top and cutting a huge square in the lid and place it over will screen mesh so they cant get out of the bin.

You don't need live plants with the babies. What you have will work fine. The goal is to raise them up until they are big enough to be moved to a more permanent enclosure. Then is a good time to start using live plants. The live plants wont hurt but are not needed at this point.

With the fake plants they are so much easier to remove and clean when you have to. No soil or all that other stuff to cause problems.

IMO : Your bin design will work perfectly. No changes needed. Good Job!

What a relief! Thanks a ton Ryan. I was thinking the same thing but then everyone said get some live plants lol. I will stick with fake plants then. Then when they move to their screen cages, they will get live plants;)
