for those of that have automated misting systems..
is it necessary to break them down ever so often and give them a good "flushing" with bleach or vinegar?
i have a mistking system (which i LOVE) and i wonder about the water in the reservoir, it never totally gets emptied so there is always some water sitting in it. i add water daily but was wondering if i need to drain it weekly, then clean and dry it good?

thanks,, lisa

I dont know the specifics on cleaning a mistking. Marty of MistKing will probably notice this thread and give you an awesome answer on how often and what chemicals to use.

if you use RO, there's no need to do anyting... Wiping the reservoir clean and rinsing it out is always a good idea though

Hey Marty,
what if I'm just using tapwater? I let it sit out over night. But was curious about algae growth accumulating in the resevoir if it doesn't ever get a chance to dry out....
Where could I get the RO water from??? What about distiled?

Thanks, Lisa

Just about every saltwater Aquarium store sells RO water.

I pour mine into another bucket when it gets really low and then clean it out with a mild cleaner. Little tiny bit of anti-bacteria soap and lots of water.

Seems to work for me.

my husband runs a saltwater aquarium store and we have several tanks at home.. we have an RODI unit at the store and home for water changes...
but we don't have a way to bypass the DI portion of the unit...

short of setting up a seperate RO system...
what's the best water to use, for the health of the chameleon and longevity of the misting system, distilled, purified or tap water just left out over night??

thanks,, lisa

Tap water has minerals in it and will cause scale to form on the misting heads The chlorine in tap water helps to keep bacteria from growing in the lines.

RO water has no chlorine or minerals but may contain silicates or phosphates that can grow bacteria in the absence of chlorine.

I use RO in my misting system and flush the lines once a month with peroxide.

My tap water will destroy my misting heads if not conditioned. I want to buy a RO and I didn't realize you had to flush the lines. I have been using a whole house anti-scale water conditioner. It is a No salt and the water is amazing, no scale forms on anything. I want to add a small RO but I can't decide what to buy and I'm not sure if it is necessary.

I'll have to admit I never flush my RO systems... I'm still running the original nozzles with no issues for several years now. I have been thinking about flushing them for the last year...so I guess that's positive :D

Nice thing about using RO is that your nozzles will work like new and you won't have any mineral build up on your tank/enclosure.

What's a good "personal" ro system? Only have 1 cham/nozzle and don't need that much water, gallon a day at most for mister/Dripper/feeders.

Was checking out the flowmaster 4 stage.. its around $150

Good question....I am shopping too and saw the same one. The under sink system is nice but I have to cut a hole in my counter top for the water spout.

use distilled water??? haha...well... you assuming you use tap water and get nozzles clogged after few months depending on the quality of your city water, then you'll have to soak in CLR or vinegar to regain some of the functionality. You'll also get residue on your cage. When you get an RO system, you can also use the water for drinking and for cooking, so it better justifies an RO purchase IMO. Cuts on your maintenance, nozzles never clog, cage doesn't get mineral deposits. $130 isn't too bad for all that!
