Its been a toss up between crested or day geckos to breed just as a fun little project. Anyone here bred them? I haven't joined a gecko forum yet but i'd like to see if anyone on here has, and whatd you think? As thrilling as chameleons?

I had Madagascar giant day geckos. They were okay :\

Go with cresties- they are a lot more fun, you can handle them and they are pretty in demand because they are fantastic as first time herps and come in tons of color morphs.

Hey Nic, I have some nice Gold dust day gex Phelsuma lauticauda lauticada.
They are good display animals, really easy compared to chams and require very similar care/considerations...
The youngsters will lap baby food off my fingers while on my hand...CB are better for that then the wc who would rather die ;D

I have some young uns for cheap at the moment if you are interested.

Cheers,
T

After doing alittle more research, ive decided to go with the crested geckos. This is just a fun project that i'd like to try just for shits and giggles. Cresteds are actually handleable so thats cool too. Id really really like to work with chondros some day, they fascinate the hell out of me, but you really have to throw down some coin for a mature pair so im not quite ready for that yet. I have a glass bowfront tank that my saltwater fish were in that i took down and it'd be perfect. Anyone else here work with cresteds?

I don't breed cresteds but I have three and have had them for over a year. Feed them Repashy MRP...we just leave a little dish in and refresh it every two days or so. Toss crickets or roach nymphs in once in a while. They like small silkies, too. I mist ours twice a day but once is fine. Vertical cages are best....planted...they sleep during the day. They don't need lights really but I provide them anyway but people have success raising healthy animals without UVB. cages are good if part screen and part glass. Ours has a glass back, glass front, screen sides and screen top. It works out well.

Do you have specific questions about them? They are really easy.

i breed crested geckos. they so fun to work with and there so cute with crests and there mouth looks they are smileing at you.

I work with them I have 1.3.4 or them right now. They are awesome.

I love you can feed them crested food and not have to feed crickets. We feed ours crickets once a week and some baby food as a treat. They like the fruit ones. They are so easy and fun. You made a good choice.

we actually hand feed ours sometimes. They will just sit and hang out with you.

Awesome ryan, good to know. Ive been doing some deep research and it sounds like a blast. They live a long time so I want to make sure I really think this through because they can live over 15 years. I think it would be something fun to do on the side. I like the fact the gestation is 2-3 months, and they require the same temps as my cham eggs so i can keep them all in the same spot.

i love Day geckos. you can handle them (But they are fast) and love fruit. i wanted one. i got a cham instead (my second choice) because they couldn't be ordered in. usually they can. for an early christmas present my sis got me a chammy.

Hi,

I keep Phelsuma klemmeri, inexpectata, quadriocellata parva (east coast) and lineata lineata.
All great animals, very interesting behaviour and much faster than any chameleon, espacially Phelsuma inexpectata, they are so fast that's nearly impossible to catch them.
My favourite species are klemmeri, they are very small, cute, easy to breed and to handle. Maybe I get another pair of them next week :D, then I have a small colony.

Regards
Benny
