I'm Australian but I live in the States. They are very protective of the native flora and fauna because of the disaster with the rabbits. You won't find anyone in Australia admitting they have non indigenous reptiles.
i just moved back home from NZ in Dec and found it so (weirdly) cool that a lot of the reptiles were banned there. the only thing, i think, you could buy was a beardy..
