i'm a fan of ant colonys and i've ALWAYS wanted one.
what do u guys think of feeding ants to my cham? i plan on putting them in a dixie cup so she can feast off 'em without them attacking her. any ideas?

i might get a colony anyway tbh. but if i could feed them it'd give them more purpose. other than just another pet

I don't like ants they scare me! But if they are in an a ant farm i think their cool Lol but i would be afraid of them biting their tongue and it getting swollen and idk I just see a bad outcome out of it haha

well there are animals that eat harvester ants. reptiles.

and honestly the ants would be ingested before they knew it. the chameleons tongue moves faster than the human eye can percieve.
this is why its in a dixie cup, that way they dont attack. they just move around wildly

I see what your saying, but I wouldn't risk it.

Black/Red ants will be to small, no? What type do you plan on getting?

Yeah I guess it depends in what kind of ants to, whenever I think of ants I automatically think of fire ants no idea why but I'm hoping someone else will actually help you with your question :) have you tried searching the forum to see if anybody else asked the same question to? That might answer your question faster if so

harvester ants. they are passive animals. what you do is.

the queen is in a seperate location, the hostile ants are ALWAYS within 5 inches of the "hive"

the harvesters, the non-attackers, are out looking for things to gather. which will be typically a foot from the hive.

I have tried ants for a number of lizards. Everyone is worried about the acid or ant attack or whatever- ants are found everywhere and wild lizards do eat them. Certainly they are available if chameleons want them in the wild. In my experience some lizards will eat a few, most will not eat many at all- they will not fill up on ants. A chameleon *might* try one or two- I doubt you are going to get one to eat more than that. Even desert lizards I have kept usually do not eat many more than that in a single go.

my chameleon will eat ANYTHING i offer her. i've given her mealworm beetles, mealworms, waxworms, crickets, a moth once.
and shes eaten every piece of fruit and vegetable i've given her. She's a real fatty lol.
