K, heres the sticky:

Cage Info:
Cage Type - Describe your cage construction (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
6' x 4' x 3'...wooden with screen.

Lighting - What brand, model, and type of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
Reptiglo 10.0 uvb 2 foot linear tube with a 60W basking bulb in a corner. Lights are 12 hours on/off.

Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
I have a digital max/min thermometer/hygrometer that I use around his enclosure. His basking spot is 88-94F and lower levels 10-15 cooler.

Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
50-60%, natural ghastly summer humidity. mist spray multiple times a day.

Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
Mostly Pothos...he ravages them! A few others, he only eats the pothos, though.

Location - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
In my room, low traffic. I have a fan in my room(a floor stand one)but it is not directed at my chams. It runs 24/7. He 6 feet off the ground when hes basking.

Chameleon Info:

Your Chameleon - The species, sex, and age of your chameleon. How long has it been in your care?
Veiled, male...about 6 months I'd say....got him from a pet store a couple of months ago. He has tripled in size and is gargantuan compared to his brothers and sister still at the store...poor lil buggers.

Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
Every day. He comes out to see me whenever I open his door!

Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders? I feed him 10-15 small crickets a day. I gutload with all kinds of fruits and veggies and the calcium plus cricket food. I also give superworms and silkworms, less crickets on those days. He is always hungry though...I am trying hard not to overfeed!

Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
I have been using the calcium with D3 and herptivite twice a week, but cut it down to every saturday.

Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
I mist often many times in the day, and have a dripper. I spray till I see him drink every day. He hates being sprayed though, and runs like crazy from the spray bottle!

Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
No to parasite testing. Poops like a champion.

History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.
Friggin nose crust.

Current Problem - The current problem that you are concerned about.
He keeps getting white nose crust. I have been using the search function like crazy, and it seems like its over supplementation...but if I cut him out any more, he wont get any! I dust very lightly, just a pinch, and for two weeks now I just give only on the weekend. Thats it. Shouldnt he be getting more? Or is it maybe Im giving too much to the crickets? I feel like I should be giving just calcium to his supp schedule, but I keep seeing the crusties and dont want to over do it!

Thanks for your help,
DJ

Two weeks ago. This week he had no crust. I have practically memorized Brad's site :D That is why I am asking. I feel like I should be giving him more straight calcium but just giving him the herptivite/calc d3 twice a week gave crusts. Do you think its possible I am feeding the crickets too much of the calcium pellets? Or something I am gutloading with? I dont want to over supplement him, but I am afraid since I lost my last veiled to MBD:(

since you are gut loading your feeders with calcium you may want to back off on the Ca+D3. Especially the D3 which may interfere with the absorbtion of other nutirents and vitamins...do you think your Cham is getting adequate UVB? if so you probably wont need so much of the D3 and just plain Ca should do since your cham is able to make his own D3.

hope that helps

I always thought that nose-crust stuff was from overheating, because they dont have sweat glands like humans do, they cool off by evaporation from their mouths and nose, so the salty secretions (from their nose) leave behind the white crystal stuff your seeing. thats always what i assumed it was, and just made sure i kept mine well hydrated; however, after about 6-8 months it seems liek they grew out of it and i havnt seen it again.

Thanks. I will stop giving calcium pellets to my crix and stick to dusting. We'll see.

After using the search function here excessivly:D the white nose crusties almost seems common with alot of members Chams. Is it DEFINATLY over supplementation that causes this? I have read dehydration, low RH, etc...

Yes, from what I have heard, it has to do with the fact that chameleons don't have the ability to sweat and is some sort of salt excresion.....

We had this with one of our chams and we bumped up his hydration a bit as well as readjust the supplement schedule. He got rid of it no problem. Hope that helps some.
