Another Pedialyte vs. Gatorade thread, but different...

Okay so the question: Pedialyte or Gatorade

The situation: Molly has not been very perky lately. She had a spirt of energy last week, and now nothing. Just sits on her branch... occasionally she will walk around, but she mainly just sits there. I am going to add some electrolytes to her diet, the thing is, should I go with pedialyte which has no sugar just whatever is in pedialyte, or should I go the gatorade route with more sugar to perk her up more and boost her metabolism and spirits. OR... should I get both and do a mixture of 2 parts pedialyte, 1 part gatorade, for the best of both worlds with less sugar. Or maybe just watered down gatorade. Opinions? Oh and Molly has infections and is on antibiotics if that helps your decision...

its not a huge issue in the qty likely to be given, but just for the record, even unflavored pedialyte contains dextrose, how long has it been since she has dropped her last fecal and what was it like? are her eyes sunken and does she keep them closed? what is her diet, supplementation and lighting ? does she still eat/drink /, it would probably be a good idea to fill out the how to ask for help form in its entirety, you will get more valuable responses in return jmo

I think you should ask the doctor that prescribed the antibiotics....it's conceivable that the effectiveness of the antibiotic might be affected by the food/drink the animal is consuming.

I know my local water store sales electrolyte water. Ive never used it, but i have always wondered my self when these discussions come up about Pedialyte vs. Gatorade for electrolytes if the electrolyte water is just as good if not better? I also noticed that there was "homemade electrolyte solution" when i googled Gatorade vs pedialyte. I'm not saying these are better, but I'm just adding some options that you might consider looking into.

If its just a decision between either of those two, it doesn't matter too much. We use Gatorade all the time with fresh imports, as it is as effective as Pedialyte for what we are hoping to accomplish. In such cases, we know we have a somewhat dehydrated chameleon due to the stress of the export-import process. Kind of a no-brainer there.

You also haven't actually diagnosed a problem, other than she's not as "perky", and it sounds like you now want to address this with something akin to you or I gulping down an energy drink. Kind of shooting in the dark, and I don't think either will fix anything, although it won't hurt either, except to dealy diagnosing a genuine problem if one exists.

She is just a sick one. She has double eye infections with one that is horrible looking, see https://www.chameleonforums.com/molly-updates-pic-heavy-35824/ . She also may have abcesses on her head, we have ttried lancing them but nothing, we are not really sure what they are but they have not grown for a while. I am going to contact the vet again and see if there is anything else we can do for her but I wanted to help her out with some more electrolytes. She has never been healthy, she was a rescue from petsmart and they gave her to me because they were sure she was going to die within the week. It's been 6 months now. She is on Ciprofloxacin and vetropolycin for her eye. I want to try teramicin for her eye and maybe a different antibiotic. She has been on possibly every antibiotic there is and nothing helped except the last one she was on but that one was intramuscular and it hurt her a lot.

I just went to hannafords and decided to get powerade zero mixed berry. 0g fat, 55mg sodium, 35mg potassium, 0g carbs, 0g protein. Sweetened with sucralose and has 10% Niacin, 10% vitamin B, and 10% Vitamin B12. It seemed like a better choice to gatorade which has 110 mg sodium and 30mg potassium. I want to hydrate her not dehydrate her =P
