Another new owner :) Cage help please...

Ok, so my situation is a little different.

First, I would like to explain the lack of research before getting the veiled. My lovely little sister (sarcasm) took it upon herself to buy a chameleon against our mothers permission. It's not that she minds them in the house... growing up I had (and still have) pythons, tarantulas, geckos, frogs, etc. My sister just isn't responsible enough to keep any thing living. Not even a tulip. Anyhow, that's besides the point. I was at their house and decided to help my sister put her laundry away... the genius had a chameleon stashed away in her closet in on of the "critter carriers" without lights or anything. :| This is how the chameleon ended in my care...

Now, I am by far a chameleon expert but I do have many reptiles... I know chameleons require special care and attention different than anything I do have. Where we live, there isn't really any where to "give" the chameleon to or any "reptile clinics" to donate to. My friend is a veterinarian and he does specialize in reptiles, but is out of country for his honeymoon for three weeks. Must be nice, lol. (He is who I would usually turn to...)

Right now, I do have the veiled in a 20G L glass aquarium. It is what I already had at my house so I cleaned it very good and set it up for now until I can get a tall mesh house for her. It has quite a bit of plastic plants and vines all over, moss and the eco earth coconut fiber for the bedding, with more plastic plants. I have three 10 ft bendy vines running through for plenty of climbing. I also have 3 lights. I have a double dome with a UVB and day time basking light and a night time light. I have it connected to my timer "surge protector" thing that has it set for 12/12. I am managing the heat according. Right now I am having trouble holding humidity with only using the pressure sprayer, and am ordering her a fogger/mister today. (Any suggestions?)

She is eating and drinking very well, I am not having any problems with her at all, but since me taking her on was spur of the moment and VERY unexpected, I want to make sure everything is going to be well for her. I am definitely going to get her a tall cage with better airflow than a glass tank. I am just very worried about the humidity.

Any tips, tricks, advice, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am doing as much research as possible to accommodate her. I am definitely up to the task and commitment of caring for her.

Also, I do have her in my "kids bedroom." She is sharing a large room with a ball python, burmese python, leopard geckos, tree frogs, tarantulas, bearded dragons, chinese water dragons, and 2 iguanas. (I have the territorial/loners housed separately, don't worry.) They are all separated in the room where they can't see each others enclosures to stress them out, and the chameleon is as high as I could get her.

From head to butt area she is about 3 inches. I'm not sure how old she is right now, but will try to find out when my friend is back from his honeymoon. As far as I can tell Lilith is a female... there are no spurs on her feet.

A picture her first night with me. I will get an updated picture ASAP to show you all.

Thanks a bunch.

ok ...your set up is all wrong...that is the first thing. Look on this site there is (left) a box that gives you options you want to go to the care resources section and print off the sheet for the veiled chams. This sheet will answer a lot of your questions.
After you get a chance to read that let us know if you have any other questions, about the enclosure. (and by the way I hate fogers they have a tendency to keep the enclosures too moist and cause fungus problems, I suggest a auto mister) some use the fogers and have great luck I have just seen too many Chams with mouth rot and nasty sores from being keep too moist.

By the way she looks good, a little dehydrated but good.

Thanks so much! I didn't even see that over there! So I made a bunch of changes. She's now in a mesh cage, no substrate, and has a mister going. How does this look?

I got her in there and she started shedding the next day. I watched the humidity levels close and it looks like every 8 hours spraying for 2 minutes is keeping it good. I bought some more branches to go left and right I'm putting in tonight, another bendy vine, and some more greenery.

Does anyone know of a way to get the mister inside of the cage? I have it in the door and its a royal pain trying to adjust it when I have to open the door. They have suction cups on them and it doesn't stick to the mesh :x

Also, and suggestions of what to put on the outside of the cage? The water is getting everywhere. I have a towel on the back.

She likes to stick her head right in the direct path of the mister when it sprays lol...

It looks like you might have bought a Monsoon mister. Take it back if you can because it will probably stop working on you in a few weeks anyway. If you can take it back take the money and put it towards a MistKing. They are awesome, and a starter set is about the same price as the Monsoon. The misters are hooked up through your screen, they don't use suction cups, and they are of much better quality and have a better range of movement. If you do decide to go this rout I used (LLLREPTILE) because the shipping was way cheaper. And some people put plastic around the sides, and back to hold the water in, but the way you set them up works best for me. If you had the misters hooked up properly you would have more versatility. Your set-up looks good.:)

I'm glad I stumbled across this post... Taking notes on what everyone is using equipment wise.

I know that it was a shock, and it sounds like you take care of quite a few animals. Good on you for doing a rescue! Sounds like she will be in good hands with your interest.

A lot of people punch small holes in the room of the cage to insert the misting nosles. As for the water spray I took a vinly shower curatain and wrapped it around the two sides and back and tucked it into the water drain tray I have. This way all the water that sprays out the back just drains into the drain pan without causing any problems. I personally hand mist so there isnt as much water coming out (live plants also help with this problem) If you go this route I would also set up a tube draining from the tray into a bigger tub for easier removal without having to pick up the cage and re-adjust the shower curtain everytime you do so (it was a pain in the *** getting it in properly the first time lol)
Congrats on the new pet, I have a maled veiled myself (happens to have lots of medical problems) but they are the coolest animals i've ever owned, love my guy to bits and love watching him explore
Good luck =)

I bought a monsoon and it worked for months then it fried it's timer out and misted whenever it felt like however much it wanted. Long story short my cham went to the vet today with a 230 vet bill for an respiratory infection he received from the product.
