Bought about panther at the santa clara reptile show. Not much chameleons there at all. Lots of snakes, turtles and frogs.... I couldn't help it... My mission was to buy a male veiled but they didn't even have it!!! There were few mellers and panthers and only 1 veild so i decided to skip on the veiled. Not bad at least I had the chance to meet some of the LLLreptile people because I usually order from them. Well I bought a 3, 3.5 month old male red bar ambilobe :D Didn't have the chance to check him out once I got home because i had to attend a wedding. sucks tomorrow I have work all day and my next chance will be monday.

My best guess

I too was surprised by the "lack" of Veils at the show. Being the best starter Chameleon, you would have thought there would have been a ton of them.
Reptile Depo had two adult Mellers, and the best priced baby Panthers that looked about 2 to 3 months old. LLL had the most. Some mixed blood baby Panthers, Flap necks and Rudis. They too had two adult Mellers, but they had their eyes closed, and seemed stressed by all the attention.
Then there was "The Panther Pad". Owner, Jeff Horn. I hung out around his table for about 30 minutes (1130 to 1200) just to watch the action. He had about a dozen male Panthers, various ages. In that 30 minutes he sold 3 Panthers. Very nice looking, they seemed to sale themselves really. He always had a group of people standing around his table. He had care sheets and pics of the parents of those that were too small to show color.
I was told by one of the organizers (forgot his name, I think it was John) that they had been surprised by the large number of people who showed up before the doors were even open. One hour later, there was still a line of over hundred people trying to get in. This San Jose show had become more of a bird show last year. But, this year it was almost all reptiles, which was great to see.
A lot of people I talked to stated they were going to also check out the Sac show next month, so I guess the price of gas must be coming down (ha).

Yes, and no....

Yes, I went to see if this show would be any bigger or for that matter, better, then what it used to be. And, it was (yea). I hope all the vendors make enough money to come back again next year. There was certainly A LOT of people there.
Did not buy anything, just reported what was there. I was tempted by one of the LLL Mellers. I had never seen those colors on a Meller before (it was the smaller one near the bottom front of the cage). Had it looked better, I might have been willing to take the chance. I had hoped LLL would have some more Deremensis, looking for another female, but Pam, told me they were still waiting on another shipment. Heck, I was just happy to hear they are still getting them with the new export limits.
But, as you saw, Reptile Depo had that giant Meller that was drawing all the attention by the north end of their table set up. That was one BIG chameleon!

Yeah I was looking at the panther at reptile depot. I bought the red barred from jeff. I will try and post some pics. Bought a bunch of stuff from lllreptile. Was tempted to get a baby turtle.

He had some very nice Panthers.

I am sure you got something really nice, as he had a dozen very good looking males on display for sale. In 30 minutes I watched 3 get purchased. He seemed surprised at the attention! He had one purchased in the first 30 minutes, so that made 4 gone in the first two hours. Pretty good start I think.

there were three cages in the front. Two of the cages got sub adult-adult. Other cage had two baby panthers for the special price. I bought the bigger healthy and less stressing one. I didn't ask how many baby he got but he told me he sold another baby half an he ago. I work all day so didn't get the chance to see him. My mist system is setup. Yeah its too bad that there weren't any veiled to pick from. I understand the Cham takes a lot more room to setup and I was suprise seeing two huge meller in one cage. Were they both female?? I want to check out the sac show now. This time not going to buy anything huge so I might just ride down there with a backpack

I think I saw you buy it!

You are right, there were three cages, with the babies in the first cage to the left, looking at the display. I saw one of those get purchased. Jeff, reached in and did a full hand grab of the baby, and put it into a brown paper bag (ha).
As I recall, it was the larger of the two. Nice looking start you have there!
As to the Mellers, yea, it was sad they had them both in that small cage.
No telling their sex, but, yes it was sad.

yeah it was sad cause they were huge and looked very stressed out. Yeah I was debating after that I saw him grab the cham and pull it off the tree so fast and then put it in a brown paper bag. I was hoping he gave me that small cage that he had. That seem like a nice big carrying cage.. yeah thats me in the black hoodie.

You got the best one.

I think you did get the best deal he had going at the time. I am sure he would have been gone if you did not buy him when you did. If I see you at the Sac show, I will make sure to say "Hi". I was standing behind you to the left when you purchased your good looking boy. Did you see the couple that was at the far end of the table from where you were standing? They purchased your Cham's brother. Jeff, told them (they were new to chameleons) that they could email him any time, and he would help them out.
So, if you run into any issues, I would expect he would do the same for you.
Though, I can see you were not new to chameleons.
I kept his card if you need any info.
Take care.

Thanks!

I might of seen the couple, believe that the wife was blond? They were like in the mid 40's late 40's? I think the husband was the one asking me hey how long can we handle him for and if they were good pets? I told him around 2 mins, at most 5 mins. I told them they are more to observe and watch and not to be handle much. Consider the fact I knew they were new to it. I think the last one was a little smaller and he seemed very stressed out. The one I bought is a quick little guy. He is shy but once you get a hold of him he is very calm. I got lucky because I told him I would be back in 10 mins to buy him. Took the chance, left and came back and it was still there :D. I needed that break time to walk away to find out if I really wanted to buy him. I got his info and sent him an email yesterday. He didn't respond back yet. He told me he does a lot of importing and exporting because I asked what type of panthers does he usually breed.

I don't remember who was around me except for the guy who asked me questions about them. I still don't know remember what he looked like. I hope they got all the setups ready because I think that was just a random buy. Hopefully they stumble into this forum as well. Im just taking a random guess but were you in the red jersey?

Good memory.

Yep, that was me. That was indeed the couple that came back to buy the other panther. You told him exactly the right info. You know, I think next time I am in that situation, I am going to just give them the link to this Forum.
There is so much info here, and so many people willing to help. I wish I would have thought of it then (duh).
Cannot wait to see you post pictures of that panther as it grows. Going to be a big one, thats for sure.
