Ankaramy in Shanghai

Hey, Guys. I'm a Chinese living in SH. Like most of you, I'm a chameleon fan.
One day ago, I got an Ankaramy Panther. Now I really need you help.
Since it is a WC panther, it has many problems which made me worry. It did eat crickets today(it ate 10 crickets when I stayed very far from it), but its left eye seems to have problem. When it was moving, the left eye looks normal. But when it didn't move, the left eye was always closed while its right eye keeps watching. I know closed-eye is not a good phenomenon for chameleon. So I ask for your advice.
Another problem is that from the photo I think it needs water to restore its energy. I tried spraying water and dripping water, but it didn't drink any.

Thanks for enduring my poor English.

Yea I would definately mist him a good 15 minutes with some warm (not hot) water. Most wild caughts tend to be a little shy or very aggressive towards people so it may take him a little while before he starts drinking. Also giving him a 15 minute misting will probably help his eye out, he may just have something in his eye that is bothing him so the misting will help. If after a few days he doesn't open his eye then you may want to take him to a vet or look into terramycin.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Chris

the left eye probably irritated.
you can help him alleviate that problem by warm water misting for a good 30 minutes or you can shower him with warm water if you have a shower in your bathroom.
just put him on a fake plants and take him to your bathroom.
turn on your shower to warm water (not hot).
aim your shower head so the water hits the wall and reflect some of the mist on to the plants where your chameleon is at. I suggest not to shower your chameleon directly. The water might be too strong for him.
give him 30 to 45 minutes there.
Usually, chameleon loves this session.
if it's working, you will start to see your chameleon's eyes bulging like a balloon. don't worry, it's normal. It is how they clean their eyes.

hope that helps

Thank you guys!

I have a good news. I gave it a sun bath this afternoon. I put it into a Hagen nylon cage and set a nestle water (with couple of holes) above the cage. My chameleon drank the water crazily. I think it was like the shower work as you have recommended.

I think some of you misunderstood my word. It did open left eye when hunting or moving, but when it was stationary its left eye was always closed. Although it drank much water, this phenomenon didn't change. I think it will take a few days before it restores its energy.

Now the only problem is that it hasn't defecated yet. As I told you, it ate 10 crickets yesterday. So I think it should have shown me some dirty things today. Anyway, I still fed it with some crikets today. I controlled the number and it ate 5 today. Now I'm expecting its virgin dejecta.

Thanks for your advice again and I will keep posting new pictures.

Hope its eye will recover soon

This is the drinking picture. From the picture, I think its eye sinks. What do you think?

This is the big picture of its sun bath setting. It turns cold in SH and after 2 pm I put it back to another wooden cage.

Oh, I forgot to answer someone's question. I paid 2300 RMB for this Ankaramy from a guy in Tianjin (another city which is not far from Shanghai). It took 16 hours for the transportation. I have waited for panther chameleon for one year. As you may image, it's not easy to get one in China not to say Ankaramy. Thus, I really hope that I may keep it for a long time. When it turns warm and if it is healthy, I'll try to find a decent girl for the pity guy.

ok here we go.
the cage: you need way more plants in there.
What type of lighting are you using?
The chameleon should be higher than eye level. you may want to put something under the cage.

I use a hagen 10.0 uvb tube and a pottery heater. I think my English is not good enough to understand you last two sentences. I mean I did know the words but failed to understand it as a whole.

i think what you mean by pottery heater is a "ceramic" heater, right?
well, get rid of the ceramic heater and change it with regular 75 watt bulb for heat lamp.
