Hi everyone,

it'd day 5 that I have Splat, and he's eating well.
just put in 5 more houseflys and I wanted to show just how much he loves them. :D

please forgive me for some of them are not the best quality.
I'm shooting through the screen and without flash, so slow shutter speeds, and lots of noise.

anyway, let's just say that once I put them in I can hear the rest of the flys in the container yelling "dead flys flying"...:p

enjoy

thanks orchardist ... for mentioning that about the money tree, what you have sir is actually a money tree and not a schefflera. they look very much so alike. but i believe the money tree is on the "not safe list"

your guy looks great, he probably won't munch on the plant but it might be ideal to replace it.

*money tree grows in a similar 5-6 leave stalk/umbrella pattern as the schefflera, but it tends to have a much more evident vein system in the leaves and also tends not to be droopy as leaves get larger...as schefflera gets large the leaves kinda droop more.

after some quick research, yes, it's a money tree.
I'm not conserned at the moment for a few reasons...

a) he's a baby
b) he's an ambilobi, so shouldn't eat plant leaves.
c) the leaves are so thick and hard, that even an omnivor/herbivor would have a hard time chewing on them.

I know I'm sounding like a bad cham owner, but if my thoughts change as he gets older, then yes, it will be replaced.
for now, he is doing too well in it.
he has a normal sleeping spot on it that I would hate to stress him over it if I should remove it.

oh, and Jay, I got a ficus ben. from KK...it came yesterday finaly.
a little droopy and needs some love to nurse back to full health, but should help give him some added humidity and drinking spots.
although I am leaning on using it for a resting spot for him while I do a deep cleaning of his cage...no the ficus is not in his cage yet.

Great looking guy you have there! I think baby chams prefer flies over crickets! lol!

The insects you are offering will eat the plants if they are left in the cage. Just keep that in mind. So he will be ingesting the plant by means of the insects.

crickets sure, but the rest of the worms...na
besides, any crickets that do get out of the deep feeder cup
will likely be on the bottome of the cage far far away from the leaves.
but I hear ya, and will watch closely...thanks

I have notced a HUGE increase in flies this year..I have like 50 in one spot on my deck..Its going to be a rough year..Might be some free roaming in my house.
