After some of the shipping horror stories of late (and I feel very bad for everyone involved), I thought I'd post a straightforward, uneventful shipment.
I recently moved from Michigan to Nebraska, and we'd agreed some time ago that once I was settled, I'd take one of jannb's Luie and Camille babies. We both kept our eyes in the weather (hot and humid in both Florida and Nebraska), but decided to take the chance and ship Monday night. I had spoken with the people at work and everyone agreed that there should be no problem receiving the occasional live reptile here; I work in a laboratory building that receives daily shipments of fragile, time-sensitive items (e.g., enzymes shipped on dry ice). UPS usually shows up around 10; I checked about 9:50 and they weren't here yet. I went back to my office and the mail staff called just after the delivery; her box was on a shelf all by itself (thankfully I didn't have to dig through the pile of ~25 other incoming boxes). I brought it to the main office as some of the people wanted to see her (another hastened out of the room before she's have to come face-to-face with a lizard). I opened up the box and bag, and Bea came right out, bright green and no worse for wear. My Department Chair passed by and held out his hand to her, and she climbed right on. After coming out, she had no intention of getting back into the bag or box; I live a whopping three minute walk from where I work, so just walked her home on my arm and put her on her Ficus.
She has eaten and drunk and, while she still looks quite suspiciously at me, seems to be settling in. I haven't unpacked my camera cord from the move yet, so all I have to offer are a couple iPhone shots, but you can at least see her in them. She has a 6+ foot Ficus alii, a twisty stick, a bendy vine and an orchid. She likes clambering about on the wood dividers between the window panes.
