an angry cham

so hampton has so far been a great cham but has been having an itchy eye and so i was going to take him to the vet to get it checked out and the vet recommended trying eye drops first before bringing him in and it seemed to make an immediate improvement so today i went to add one more drop to make sure the problem was worked out and hamton opened his mouth and began hissing and lunging at me... what a brat, do you guys think it was only because the eye drops or is this going to be a mean streak thats going to prevent any handling that doesnt cause stress, i have heard in general that panther chameleons were generally more tolerant of handling then others and now im thinking i just got a mean chameleon he is just over 4 months and i try not to handle him often but should i be trying to while he is young to prevent him from acting like this in the future. Does anyone else have this problem with their panther and how can i make him more tolerant?

He is going through the teenager stage! Just be patient with him. It could have been the eye, or, like you said it could be a mean streak. It is not unusual though for that age for them to show some tude!

this is reassuring i hope thats all it is i have a mean ferret the last thing i need is a mean cham i hope he gets over it soon it was kind of a scary event for me

 

[Chameleon Caretaker]

Start hand feeding small silkworms that helps bring them back around.
The cranky stage can last till full maturity but hand feeding will help
tame him

thanks i will try this but i cant find silk worms anywhere around here either they are like my mystery bug that seems to only exist outside of long beach ca no pet stores carry them i was going to to out to west covina tomorrow to see if the reptile store there has them but even LLL doesnt have them

I dont think you can really 'make' him anything Carlton, he is what he is.
Certainly the eyedrops wont be a pleasant experience, hardly conductive to a 'happy' mood Lol.
Enjoy his spirit, dont try to break it.

i was thinking this too, and i will love him even if he doesnt ever want to be held. i was just hoping that him being more accepting to being held would make it less stressful for him when i do need to hold him in the future who knows maybe its just a phase
