...in chameleon keeping that is.

First, let me introduce myself. My name's Nathan, and as far back as I can remember, chameleons have always been one of my top 10 favorite animals. Well, a few days ago, after some thought and plenty of research, I brought home a 6-month old female Yemen with cage set up as an early birthday present to myself, joining my Indonesian shield mantis, Quazgaa.
To make a long story short, I'm excited to begin this grand adventure in chameleon ownership, and being a part of this community!! Great to meet u all!

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your female veiled. What's her name? Any pictures? Veileds are one of my favorite species and the girls are just so sweet. :D I'm attaching a few links for you below to help you keep her healthy and happy. Also at 6 months old it's time to put a laying bin in her enclosure. They can and often do lay eggs without a male even being around.

Her name is Sappho, after the famous Greek poetess. Since the word chameleon is from Greek, I thought it fitting.

Thnx for the links too. Hah, I already have the Raising Kitty site bookmarked, lol. I thought 6 months was still somewhat young for a veiled to produce eggs, but I guess not? Oh well, looks like a trip to TruValue is in order!;)

Finally, here's a picture of her on her sleeping perch:

Hi, Nathan - and welcome!

I've not got much more experience than yourself, but do have a female veiled at about the same age as Sappho. Jasmine's just begun to really show those mustard / gold scrawled markings on her sides, and has become _thick_ and _heavy_ through the middle. You can kind of feel it, when she walks on your hand - there's a solidity to her.

I'd already picked up a bin, sand, topsoil and plants to go into it, so in they all went, and Jasmine can play in her sandbox any time she wants. <whew!> Hope Sappho gives you years of fascination to come!
