Aluminum window screen

I am now in the process of stretching screen for my sons new cham cage. I had originally decided to go with fiberglass screen, simply because i have worked with it before. However, I am an engineer, and I cannot ignore the fact that aluminum is the better material for the purpose. When I used it last, I was told by the man at the hardware store that aluminum screen is much harder. I am here to say, that he did not lie. This stuff is a bigger biatch than my ex-wife. Anyone who plans on stretching window screen for their cage, if you have not done it before, listen to my recommendation. There are companies out there that you can order custom stretched screens for about $25 a piece. Use them. By the time you pay for the materials, and ruin several feet of screen screwing up, you will not have saved enough money by doing it yourself to make it worth the labor.

On the plus side, I can say i did it myself.

After 10 panels, I have got the technique down, but it was not without expense. Over all. I still came out ahead by doing it myself, but I have a half a roll of screen wadded up in the trash that represents the learning process. If anyone plans on doing it this way, find someone who has done it before. There are a few tricks that will save you a lot of frustration.
