SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooo, Dooley (kevin) emailed me back after i sent him pictures of my carpet chameleon.. and

IT'S A GIRL! :(

I had the lady order a boy... UGH i'm terrible with female chameleons.. but she said she would order another carpet chameleon and she would check to see if it was a boy.. and we would trade.. i just HOPE she doesnt get shipped another female because then we'll both be S.O.L. :p this is just crazy! but for everyone who thought it was a girl, GOOD SEXING SKILLS!

But real quick, how young will the males develop the buldge right around the vent? from birth or? because maybe "he/she" is too young to sex? i mean i trust kevin since he is the CARPET MASTER but i was just wondering :)

Thanks so much guys!

P.S. I'm doing alot better emotionally today than i was yesterday when my jackson chameleon passed away :(

sorry about your loss, im not sure about when the bulge develops but id imagine anywhere from 2 months up you can see it forming somewhat might not all that noticable but just keep checking its bound to show up sooner or later... That also sucks that they sent you the wrong sex but when thre younger its hard to tell so i can see it happening.. o

oh and im also curious to why you dont like the females ? bad luck with eggbound and what not ?

aww, Sorry to hear about your jacksons passing away!!

but yes i do believe the bulge by his vent is there from birth. im still new to chams so any senior member want to chime in on this to confirm?

In my experience with the Furcifer lateralis ‘major’ locality the males can easily be sexed right out of the egg. For some reason between about a week of age to about six or so weeks of age it becomes a little more difficult to distinguish between the two sexes but afterwards the hemipenal bulge is very apparent.

If you can provide a photo of the new chameleon we could try and sex it for you before you make the trade. Personally I have not had problems with lateralis females and egg laying so don’t be alarmed by this factor. As I mentioned on other threads, there are a lot of us that can help you through the process if it actually happens.

Well i had 2 jackson chameleons in the past.. and the 1 i got came to me pregnant.. and she had a clutch of 10 babies and all my jackson chameleon babies died :( and i was doing everything i was told to by a chameleon breeder of jacksons.. and it just broke my heart.. well after that.. she ended up getting big again so i was like WTF?! and she ended up laying out these weird orange looking sacks.. but no babies.. so i think she was unfertile or something? i took her to a vet.. and she died on the way home in the car :( and then another female jackson i had i got from a pet store.. and she was in good condition when i got her.. she was doing great.. and then she started getting plump and i was like ummm what the heck? and i got an ultrasound done on her.. and she died a few days later :( so its just not my luck with females.. i just cant handle the egg bound stuff and having to worry about if she is going to die and blahblah.. it just freaks me out.. and if i'm paying over $100 for a chameleon i want it to be a male :( i mean it sucks because i love this little one already but i cant have to worry about her not laying and getting sick.. thanks so much for your condolences<3
