Aggressive

:confused:Okay I'm new on here and I was just wondering, I just bought a female chameleon I would say a month ago from a local pet store because it was on sale and I felt like saving it haha. Anyways, everytime I try to get her out of the cage , she turns dark colors and puffs up and hisses and like strikes but doesn't bite me. But when I actually get her out , she is fine and climbs around and stuff like that. Why is this? Is she just cage aggressive?

Some chams are very territorial in their cages... They usually calm down out of their cages... Mine is the same way

My girl is evil lol shes exactly the same as you describe its just how she is:( but my male is totally different hes great:) he loves to come out and play i think they all just have different personalitys;)

Alright thank you , and I forgot to say it was a veiled. But again thanks, didn't know why she was being so mean haha

Both my 2 chams are very aggressive if you try getting in their cage for any reason. My little girl is a sweetheart when she's out of her cage. My male doesn't like being out but shows no aggression til you try touching him on his left side.

Mine is a vieled too:)shes so grumpy i think its so funny haha im in stitches when i go through photos of her! Just her expression in the pictures with her big eyes looking around lol she never moves her head just her eyes:Dshes so different from my male.

How are you trying to get her out? Have you tried placing your finger in front of her front legs? Have you tried doing the same with a stick? Can you hand feed her.:)

Well when I try to get her out, she takes off and hisses the whole time climbing around trying to get away from me haha I try to not move fast , and approach from under her.

My female carpet is very aggressive and hisses every time she sees me, but I have other chameleons that love to climb around on me and will eat out of my hand. I think it takes time for some of them to get used to you, but certain chameleons will remain aggressive. You have to be patient and work with them and even then, they sometimes will not change.

I have the same issue with my male veiled, have no choice but to "grab" at him considering he runs away. He's still a baby so he easily hides.

Now I use meal worms, make him crawl on my right hand to get to the meal worm in my left.

Ive tried this with mine! Ive tried a stick...ive tried a plant i touch her hands to try to get her to loosen her grip but she has none of it lol i can get her out but it takes along time and she gets very stressed so i just leave her to it:) but she eats from my hand fine...well she hasent realy been eating anything (except wax worms)for a few days now and shes got blue spots (shes around 6 months old) so ive found out this is just chameleon puberty lol isit normal for her to not want to eat while shes going through this??ps she has always been grumpy even before this:D

Could she be gravid? I would be careful with the wax worms. She may go on hunger strike for them. They are not good feeders, full of fat and not much else she might like silkworms, they are good feeders.:D

Thats what im saying lol she wont eat her crickets or her roaches all ive seen her eat is a wax worm she had one yesterday i didnt want to give her anymore i just gave her it so she was getting some calcium that i dusted on but im pretty sure shes not gravid i did think she was but i posted a pic and no one thought she was, but i put her in a laying bin and nothing!! So im pretty sure shes not if you wanna see her with these spots the thread is called took chamelia to the vet today and its in health clinic i think:)

If they wont come onto your hand and they wont go on a stick, how do you get them out of their cage for freerange time and sun? You never want to grab them, but what else can you do?

:D If you just have to get them out for vet or cleaning or something you'll need to use both hands. Put one hand in front under their chest and use your other hand to guide them on to your hand from behind. Never grab at them or you could tear nails, damage feet or hurt their skin.

Because mine is in a terrarium temporarely i just lift the top of and let her come out and just mess around untill she finally comes onto my hand it does take a while but i get there in the end:)

My veiled always turns away from me when I try to pick him up, but I put a hand in front of him and kind of push him in that direction and he will climb on....after he is out of his cage, he loves it.....best of luck!
