Okay I'm new on here and I was just wondering, I just bought a female chameleon I would say a month ago from a local pet store because it was on sale and I felt like saving it haha. Anyways, everytime I try to get her out of the cage , she turns dark colors and puffs up and hisses and like strikes but doesn't bite me. But when I actually get her out , she is fine and climbs around and stuff like that. Why is this? Is she just cage aggressive?

Alright thank you , and I forgot to say it was a veiled. But again thanks, didn't know why she was being so mean haha
How are you trying to get her out? Have you tried placing your finger in front of her front legs? Have you tried doing the same with a stick? Can you hand feed her.![]()
Ive tried this with mine! Ive tried a stick...ive tried a plant i touch her hands to try to get her to loosen her grip but she has none of it lol i can get her out but it takes along time and she gets very stressed so i just leave her to itbut she eats from my hand fine...well she hasent realy been eating anything (except wax worms)for a few days now and shes got blue spots (shes around 6 months old) so ive found out this is just chameleon puberty lol isit normal for her to not want to eat while shes going through this??ps she has always been grumpy even before this

Could she be gravid? I would be careful with the wax worms. She may go on hunger strike for them. They are not good feeders, full of fat and not much else she might like silkworms, they are good feeders.![]()
If they wont come onto your hand and they wont go on a stick, how do you get them out of their cage for freerange time and sun? You never want to grab them, but what else can you do?
If you just have to get them out for vet or cleaning or something you'll need to use both hands. Put one hand in front under their chest and use your other hand to guide them on to your hand from behind. Never grab at them or you could tear nails, damage feet or hurt their skin.
