Ok, here goes. I was contemplating getting either a young Panther or Veiled Chameleon and settled for the Latter. I acquired him from a local breeder on Sunday. I used to own chameleons around 10 years ago and only recently got into them again. I decided to free range him even though I know he might be a little too small for it. I figure since someone is always home, we can keep a close eye on him.
He is currently living in a 6ft. Ficus tree with an adjoining Schleffera plant. 18in. Repti glo 10.0 about 1ft. above him and a 40w bulb for heat. Before everyone says ditch the 10.0, there's a reason why I placed it 1ft above him instead of 6-8in. Mistings are twice a day with a homemade dripper. Diet consists of Dubia nymphs and is bowl fed. I have yet to see him eat but I know he does since I always count the nymphs before placing them in his bowl. He loves to bask and move around during the day and once the lights come off, he climbs down under the canopy to sleep. I also love how he moves like a leaf (back and forth) when he's walking and how he stays motionless when I check up on him. I have yet to hold him and really don't feel the need to. I'll be happy if he can eat from my hand though. I won't try that till he's older.
