Hi everyone! I have a female yemen,1yr old, housed in exo terra glass, waterfall, plastic and silk plants. She is fed live food (gut loaded) and salad leaves/veg/fruit. Misted everyday. I've had her since 12wks old.
The problem is.....her left eye. It's become slightly closed and has been rubbing it on branches. She is so unhappy she has started sleeping on the floor!! What can I do to help her??????

Hi Mavis,

1) Welcome to the forum!

2) There a few things you should read/research to help set up the best possible environment for your chameleon.

3) Do you have a laybin for your girl? At 1yr old, she may be ready to lay eggs. She can lay eggs even without being with a male. If she is on the ground, she could be looking for a place to lay eggs and needs a laybin ASAP. If she has eggs and has no place to lay them, she can become eggbound and die.

4) From your descriptions, it sounds like there are a few things off with her enclosure. Could you fill out this form? https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/ The more infomration you can give us, the better we can help you. Photos are great, too.

Thanks and here is info.....
Chameleon - yemen, female, 1yr old, owned since 12wks old.
Handling - she not friendly but I can touch her.
Feeding - crickets, locust, waxworms, spinach, rocket, peppers, watercress. Crickets gut loaded and dusted wth calcium powder.
Water - waterfall and misting...she does drink.
Fecal - brown/black wth white.
History -bought at 12 weeks old now a year old.
Cage - exo terra glass h 60cms, w 45cms, d 60cms.
Lights- uv, daylight, basking spotlight, red night light.
Temp - 28°c floor, 31°c highest branch.
Plants - plastic and silk.
Placement of cage - 90cms off floor on a table.
Problem - her left eye is slightly closed, she keeps rubbing it and has started sleeping on floor.

She could have something stuck in her eye. It happens. Has she shed recently? Have you tried giving her an extra long warm mistings or tried flushing the eye with sterile saline solution (not the stuff for contact lenses, just saline solution). I would try those techniques to treat her eye irritation.

It worries me more that she is sleeping on the floor. Does she have a laying bin in her cage just in case she needs to lay eggs?

I have been misting more since I noticed her eye. She can open it. I will try the eye wash. This will be challenging as her temperament is to attack me!!!! Bless her

Her colour has changed from happy green to a dull green/yellow with dark yellow patches.
She is still eating, drinking, basking but she is restless. I will put a tray in. This is my first chameleon so I am a novice.
Thank you
