this is a little embarrassing, but my self esteem is through the floor at the moment...i battle acne every second of everyday, and im getting sick of it :/ no money for a dermatologist, so im stuck with whatever i can find. ive tried just about everything cept proactive...which i heard you use it once, and your skin is addicted and theres no getting off of it without your skin blowing up. tried all the over the counter stuff, egg whites, asprin, you name it. thing is, i dont have a lot of time to be applying all this stuff all the time, i just dont. another thing i hear is makeup. i hate makeup with a passion, i do not have the time, nor patience, to apply it every morning...seriously. suggestions, hints, tips, anything?

i know a lot of people who tan at the tanning bed just for acne it works really good to their face as actually cleard up

makeup is going to clog your pores, so your good going without it.
What kind of diet do you eat?, thats alot of it. and so are genetics, did either of your parents suffer from it?

let me think on this, can you pm me so I can reply to you?. I work in a spa and might be able to help with products. I will have to get a better description of your acne as well (in your pm). We carry products that might help. I am happy to send some to you

I have used, and currently use Proactiv. My acne used to be HORRIBLE! Like, REALLY bad. I used Proactiv and it literally cleared my face. I stopped using it for a year or two, and I got a bit of acne, but my skin did not get addicted and blow up or anything. I think that may just be a rumor. I would try it if I were you, it really does work.

Well it really just depends on your acne. I've fought with acne since 6th grade which is about 6 years now. Proactive did absolutely nothing for me except make my skin dry and red. My dermatologist basically said Proactive is a joke unless you have a certain type of acne. I have the tiny tiny pores that seem to never go away.

Currently I'm using Duac and Differin. If you'd be able to try pills they are a lot cheaper, there's doxycycline which should help. Best of luck! It's a huge pain.

If you are over 15yo, it is most likely a chemical imbalance that will go away as you begin having sexual relations. And I don't mean oral or manual favors to your boyfriend. Full on engagement is what I am saying. Although I have also read that this is a psychosomatic condition that will eventually fade away as you grow older. If I were you, I would also turn my diet around, cutting all fatty foods and introduce more vegetables, nuts and high fiber foods. Replace cooking oil for olive oil, and no soft drinks for sure. Not sure if this will work, but at least it will be healthier for your body. Good luck.

Has your doctor given you Tretinoin (Retin A) with an antibiotic? They worked great for both my girls when they were teenagers.

I have a couple of teens.

2 things seem to make a big difference for them.

Avoiding eating wheat products as much as possible.

And they put a clean bath towel over their pillow every night and sleep on that instead of directly on the pillow. Every night this is changed to a new clean towel. Sounds weird and makes for a lot of laundry but has helped them a lot.

They tried the medicated stuff as well- these are the two things that cleared them up.

My doctor and mother got me on the pill when I was 17 because I'd been going through puberty since just about 10 years old, and it wasn't getting better. Having that steady stream of hormones evened me out, and for the most part my skin looks way better. If I ever go off it it's like BAM and it all comes back. But this was after trying a lot of other things, we realized it was just my hormones and not necessarily anything else I was doing or not doing.

I do drink an obscene amount of milk though, which is why my skin isn't 100%. When I go on a summer course to a different country where I may not be able to keep 2 gals of milk in the fridge at any one time, my skin gets even better. But I go through 2 gals in about 2.5 days. My dermatologists always tell me to stop it but I couldn't! lol I love dairy.

ive actually been on two kinds of pills now, for extreme period cramps which were soo bad i had to leave school, first was a once a month kind of deal, now im on the every 3 month stuff, made a little difference in my acne, but stopped my cramps completely :/ and ive cut milk completely out of my diet except for school lunch...they charge $2.00 for a water bottle, and 25 cents for milk...and we arent allowed to bring our own, kind of lame..

I no longer deal with this, but I did alot of research and tried a bunch of stuff when I was in highschool. Dermatologist, family doctor, proactive.. It wasn't working aside from accutane...which is strong

Once I got of accutane, I decided to do more digging. I found a site that showed a regime using basic treatments, but focused more on application. This worked the best! The dude focused on irritation to your face, basically only using your fingers to glide on your skin rather than everyone who wants to scrub their face off they are so annoyed. I would wash once a day with water, and at night take a 5% benzoil peroxide cream and gently apply it to my whole face. After about a week I was completely clear. Just have to control yourself and never irritate your face

I'm on a once-a-day pill, which is the only thing (my OB/GYN says) that is stable enough to keep hormones steady. I wanted to switch to something that wasn't every day but she said that it wouldn't work, only a once-a-day pill will make the difference in my skin. Something that's once a month would work for birth control, obviously, but it isn't steady enough for skin control.

Throughout highschool i struggled with acne a bit.. I would try everything the pharmacy had with little to no results.. And sometimes got worse, after doing research i found out that most of the time you dont need any harsh chemical products to clear up your skin.. What i have done with awesome results is wash my face with nutrigena oil free face wash 3 times a day, morning afternoon and night, and directly after drying my face i would apply aveeno face lotion for sensitive skin.. And i can tell you i never looked back and i havent bought any products since.. Sometimes to much stuff over drys your skin which causes acne, your skin needs oils, i would say give it a try

i have to take a pill once a day too, but i meant the cycles were once a month/now every 3 months :p
