A Pygmy Chams Lifespan?

I was told the lifespan of these little beauties is only 6months, is this correct?

they usually live longer than that! id say 4-8 years for a pygmy with them usually only livivng to about 5. It also depends if they are wc and how healthy they are. Some have bought wc that have only lasted 6 months but cb should obviously last alot longer I have never kept pygmy chams though!

Definitely longer than 6 months! I've had my wc adults twice that long already. I've heard 2-3 years but don't know for sure since I haven't had any geriatric pygs yet. But it's definitely not just 6 months - they don't even reach adult size by that age...

4-8 even 5 years for a pygmy?? surely they are hardy little animals, but i've never once seen or heard of pygmies living that long.

females will often wear out much quicker than males, that being, they will breed and lay eggs all year round, and false chameleons will lay infertile eggs the same as true chameleons, thus in my experience there isn't really much of a way to slim infertile clutches in pygmies. i've gone through a handful of pygmies, from juveniles to adults (females) that have only had a life span within the first and second year.

my ex has a male however who we've had as a sub-adult WC, and is still living after an additional 2 years or so, but he is getting ready to pass away as well.

so females i would estimate, have a lifespan 1-2 years
males anywhere from 2-3

So despite what im told they are a worth while investment, only £30-£40 for a pygmy that will only live to 6months sounded a little steep specially sein as there probably already a few months old before there sold im assuming.

As a breeder this is what I have found. From birth to death my females average around 2-4 years but they are mated year around living in colonies of about 1male and 3-5females. My longest male is still alive and I hatched him in 2006. He's the only one I have kept. I sold the others.

Females can go at anytime especially if breeding. Bigger colonies are always better as it causes way less stress on a single or two females being harassed constantly by the male.

Any WC's can go at anytime due to stress, viral things you won't even notice and you will never know their age.

Sorry forgot this: With the right conditions a WC female should live an average of 1-2 years from time of getting them. The smaller, obviously means the younger. WC males should give you a solid 3 years with the right husbandry.
