A Persistent Problem.

Hello there, there has been a problem that ive had to deal with for the last two weeks and its happened again!

Any U.K members are probably familer with Pets at Home, well recently for the second week in a row, i went down to pick up some locusts for my 3 year old yemen chameleon, when i went to get them the women said 'Sorry but unfortounetly we have no livefood avalable at the moment and our next shipping is friday, that was tuesday, so its been two days since hes had a proper meal.

Hes not really hungry though because ive fed him 4 melworms and one waxworm yesterday and he didnt want any today, will he be fine untill saturday? Thats when dads taking me in so thats when ill get them, if the problem continues then ill just have to feed him crickets from now on!

Hi! He should be just fine a healthy adult can go a few days without food. Since you have a vieled (Yemen) Cham you can offer him fruits and veggies if he likes them. Things like grated sweet potato, a little apple, kale, rocket (my girl will do anything for rocket) mango and things like that can be offered to him.

Your chameleon's three years old. If he's healthy and does not want to eat anymore, you already gave him too much feeders. Adult chameleons should not get food every day anymore. There should be days without any food, even a week would not harm at all. Chameleons don't use 70% of their energy for keeping temperature as mammals do. They just walk to a sunny place to warm up and that's it. So they need a lot less food than your dog, cat or whatever. I would not advice giving worms/maggots, too. They're just little protein bombs and our animals tend to be very sensitive about renal diseases, which can easily happen via overfeeding and especially too much protein intake.

It's all about participating in the husbandry and photography bits the green squares at the side represent your 'reputation' on the forum. Other members can click on the scales at the corner there if they found your post helpful or if you made a kind comment etc.

I wonder if you have any independent reptile shops you can buy feeders from?
PAHs feeders not very good in my opinion.i use them as a last resort. Have you tried ordering on line? Your veiled will eat crickets ok. It's good to have a variety. Before joining this forum I fed Popeye solely on locusts but now he has been introduced to crickets. Silkworms. Butterworms and the dreaded Dubai roaches. He is still suspicious of them but will try them. I usually buy bags of 50 large locusts at a time and they will last for about 2 weeks. Do you gutload them?

I went to pets at home in search of live food once & all they had were brine shrimp! I find Creature Comforts very good. They nearly always have a good range of crickets, locusts and worms of various sizes. you can also order more obscure feeders from them, like earthworms (for my axolotls) & calci-worms.
