A Chameleon in an Upcoming Movie

Disney did "101 Dalmatians" and the sales of dalmatian puppies soared, with some unfortunate ones ending up in animal shelters.
The Taco Bell chihuahua had people looking for chihuahuas. I know a little girl whose parents got her a 6 week old puppy.
Coming to the theater soon: "Tangled", a Disney movie about Rapunzel.
One of the main characters is a very cute veiled chameleon.
I wonder if this chameleon will result in people buying chameleons without doing the research into their proper care?

:( That is a really good observation, I think it will impact the sales of Chameleons and unfortunately, some "bad" or uneducated people will get their hands on one.

Probably. I was working in a reef store at the time "Finding Nemo" came out and we had people coming in all month asking for "Nemo's" and then proceeding to try to buy fish bowls, table salt, colorful gravel and plastic plants and think that I would sell them a Clown Fish to put in this. It;s just gross the lack of research people put into things before they purchase them

I posted about Tangled a while ago! I've seen a trailer and the little cham looks so cute! Sadly, it will lead to a lot of neglected chameleons, once people realise they aren't quite as cute as the film suggests and they don't always want to sit on your shoulder and hide in your hair!

When most learn that they have to eat BUGS. "eeewwww" lol That will prob stop about 99% of the impulse buyers. Not to mention its alot harder to find a cham than it is a chihuahua or a dalmation.

There's always the posibility of them getting more popular, just like with anything else. From dalmations, to white shepherds (Bolt), to birds, fish, etc. etc.... Unfortunately there isn't anything that can be done. Even now with fairly limited popularity just sit and count all the people on this forum that knew nothing the day they bought their first chameleon. And then think of all the others that aren't on the forum that probably lost their chameleon due to inadequate husbandry.

All the information in the world is out there for people if they want to get something, it's up to them if they're going to be one of those incompetent pet owners or not.
