a bit worried about young jackson

in late fall, I was sent a very either young or small for her age Jax X - the guy said she has had one clutch - I find this hard to be true , she is only about 3/4 the size of my one yr old Jax girls from Olive - she was just a baby herself when she got here - he said ( and dont ask me WHY he would do this  ) that he bred her AGAIN - that the male "chased her down, and did his thing, she was trying to bite him the whole time - ha ha ha "   so more or less raped the poor thing ) well, she is starting to look "plump" - any sugestions on any special care for one so little - ? I really hope she is just "well fed" - can she get preg/ so young when so "un-willing ? I do not know her age , he did not know much about chams

Report this guy to the Board of Inquiry for mistreating his animals BTW

also poor girl :( I'm sure you of all people could give her a fantastic time.

Is there a preggo diet?

I don't think there is anything I can tell you other than what you already know. I would just make sure she has enough food and lots of calcium. As for if she is pregnant, as long as she is old enough it is possible; "un-willingness" has nothing to do with getting pregnant. If she is really young and/or was malnourished, I would assume that her live expectancy would take a hit, just like it does with Panthers. I would enjoy her while you can and have fun with the babies if they do arrive. :)

Crap Cheryl, that guy needs to be smacked. Why would he let something that small breed, and then dump her on YOU? Just get ready and do the best you can. Give her as much privacy as you can. Gravid or not she needs time to hopefully get into great shape before/if she has babies.

I have been able to get her weight up SLOWLY over the winter - I feel good with her weight now - she was pretty thin when she came, the male was worse ! he alrady has been re-homed mos. ago - but this weight I am seeing now, is not from over feeding I don't think - it is a "bun in the oven " look :( I was just asking if I should change anything, or do any thing different for her - I quess just suportive care  as for the guy - he is long gone - just as well, I have had all winter to stew, and get irritated - LOL she just brings back the bad memories of the poor little "overburden" cham - I really do NOT want to go threw that again if I can help it :( - on the up side, the other 2 rescue Jax ( the tiny red one, and very big female ) are doing GREAT - I did take the one for x rays a bout a mo. ago, and she seems to have slugs - so I sure hope she does not go "Mommy" on me- :p and Olive has had more than fair warning about her slugs this yr :p ;)
thanks for the help gang :)

I hope she's ok- Sherley came from a similar situation - Petsmart mom who was way too young- I'm glad she has you. At least the care she's gotten in the last couple of months give her a better chance of making it through.

Are you going for xrays? I know that is hard for you during tax season. But at least you would know what to expect. Or do you know and just don't want it to be true? I am sorry the little one is in trouble.:(

no, I will take her - who needs money anyway - LOL I will have 3 going in the next week ( as soon as I can get them there ) I have done Olive every mo/ on my attempt to see just when spines do show up- so far..... NOTHING - watch her just be FAT - lol but the other, this will be her first, she is very nervous type - but the acrylic boxes work GREAT - I do not even have to touch them - the box does not interfere at all w/ the X ray - so I only get charged per FILM , not per cham - and I can fit 3 in one shoot - then we look, its great fun ( for me- lol - I just love to "look inside" :p ) I will get a pic of her on my hand so you can see just how small she is - I will try to post it tonight yet

X-rayed every month. Aren't you worried about all that radiation? Not trying to be a smart *** but just sounds like a lot of excess radiation especially if they are developing young.

no, I asked the vet if it was safe first - I guess I should fill you in on the back story - I only started her ( Olive ) on the 4th mo - so it was not every mo/ from the breeding date- we know from at least 4 weeks back, you can see spines, this x ray was done on the poor little overburden rescue - so when I say "every month" - I did not start until her 4th mo - so this will only be the 3rd one - and with what she pulled with her slugs, I kinda want to know "whats" in there, and how many - I would prefer ultrasounds - but can not afford those :( and I hope what I am doing will help many others - I am so tired of not finding the info out there - so I have documented all of this- and others as I was able - it is by no means "scientific" data - but I hope it is something that can help on some of the confusion on just what happens when :)

here is the size of the small one ( first pic ) , VS one of Olives girls who just hit 1 yr on the 23rd of this mo - not really sure if you can tell the size difference ? its just she is so small looking compared to Olives girls -

Cheryl what is the weight difference between Olives baby and the new little one? I really can't guess just how small she is. Poor little mite.

Thanks for the back story.:)

From the pics you posted of the two girls she doesn't really look all that small. One thing about the j. zanth's out of Hawaii is there is something with the population that sometimes produces huge females. I've had huge females produce clutch's that had large and small females. Raised together or separately the size difference was always there. The smaller females were on par size wise with true Kenyan female zanth's.

Carl, I never thought of the "local" - I have noticed with Oliver, my male, he is very nice, perfect horns :) but I always thought he was "small" - even tho ppl who see him at first say he is big, until they see Olive, and now her girls, ( they are at least 1/2 his size at a yr old ) they are surprised how big she and they are -Olive's average weight it about 140 gr/ up to 179 or 189 ( I would have to check my notes ) when gravid - Oliver was 92 g
Oliver is not the father of the girls - I don't know their Daddy - :p

yes, I will get weights - good idea - lol and after what Carl said, about locals, SEE Laurie, I do not have weird water - even tho things seem to grow very big here- and I will give Mary plenty of it :p

Thanks guys, I feel a bit better now- but still "nervous" for her - ( but when am I not- LOL )
I will get weights after work

Cheryl, you have been nervous ever since I have know you. Otherwise all the phone calls we have might never have happened. See being nervous may not be all bad.

But you have learned to do as I say and not as I do. I love my stick bugs. I plan to feed them off, but I just can't do it.
