5 months old maybe sick

Gal

New Member
Our gal is a about 5 months old. The other day she started lying on the bottom of the cage on her side but is upright now eyes wide open. The cage is a tall screen one with a humidifier using distilled water and the water supply is a drip type. Plants are not real and the temperature was 76.6 digital. With a red heat lamp and a UV light. She drank some dirty water from the bottom of the cage but has been cleaned. She started lying down after that. We give her bottled water. We have been feeding her meal worms and sometimes crickets. Temperature is now 97. Covered the cage. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Turn the red light off now. Chameleons need a reduction in temp at night and pitch dark. Fill out the form so we can help you.

Your baby doe’s not need red light ever . You can take that right out .

The mulch is not needed either it’s a hazard , Please remove .

There is no need for a bowl on the bottom , they become a hazard with different bacteria’s remove right away .

As many real plants as you can fit . Walking areas you will won’t to creat .

Stop using Mealworms as your feeders.. Use crickets, Dubias, Silkies. Get some Bug burger to gut load the crickets... You need to treat all feeders with Calcium LoD every day.. You must mist 4x for 1 min everyday. They normaly drink off the leaves when you mist. The bowl is no good.. Stop handling until she's well. Most Chams dont like to be handled much. You need to make different levels in your cage to regulate temps.. From 85f at the top basking area, cooler as you go down. Get rid of that red light.. You need a good t5 light that has at least 2 bulbs in it .. 1 for UV , 1 for plants.. Light stays on for 12 hrs both bulbs. .

Thanks will do

Read through the caresheet linked above by @Chameleon Mike . Follow it to the letter... With a 97F temp in the cage the chameleon will dehydrate fast at that age.

No supplements or proper gutloading will cause issues also.

If the cham is on the floor, it needs a vet asap to figure out what is going on since so much of the basic care of out of whack.
