my 4 month old yemen is showing all the signs of being ready to lay, she is very stationary and will only stay on the bottom of the viv. she is currently housed with a male of the same age. have provided her with a laying bin as suggested, but she hasnt used it.. she has all the correct housing lighting and heating, i have had them both since they hatched. is she to young to lay?? I think she is dying!!

Females usually don't lay until 6 months. This could be another problem. Please fill out the how to ask for help form at the top of this forum section.

Also, they shouldn't be housed together for very much longer. This can lead to several problems. They should be put in seperate enclosures as soon as possible to avoid problems between them. There are several issues with housing two chams together.

What is your basking temp>

ALso, shes probably stressed out because shes with a boy.

they need to be seperated. now.

I read about 4 months old veiled here and she had eggs. I think it is rare but possible. May be she is a little older than you know. (I don't know how sure was the guy in their age you bought them from).
But I'm pretty sure if she really has eggs, she doesn't lay because of the boy!
Just like the other members said, separate them!

When veileds first came into the pet trade 20+ years ago, many of us bred them around that age. Any time from 3.5 months on. There was a stupid rumor spread that if not bred as early as they were receptive, then they would die egg bound. So everyone bred them really early. Many of my offspring can be bred by that age if they were ever allowed- I chose not to because it is hard on the females and nowadays everyone knows better.

Depending on her size, it is totally possible that you have created a sibling pregnancy situation. Or she could just be really stressed from being around your male at 4 months of age still.

Either way, separate them and give her her own enclosure with a nest box, and visually isolate her from the male so they cannot see each other.

-Reminds me of the story of the time my father went to see a lady about a sick cat when he was still a young veterinarian. My father told her the cat wasn't sick it was pregnant. "Oh! That's IMPOSSIBLE! I never let her out of the house!". "Well- what about that tom cat over there?" " HE can't be the father! He's her brother!"

lol
